This page applies this app's travel muhurat rules to one month, December 2026. The Muhurat calculator and the Muhurat feature run an engine that scores three 90-minute windows a day, at 06:40, 09:15 and 15:30 IST, so December has 93. Of those, 30 have the Moon in a nakshatra the engine lists for travel, 21 overlap Rahu Kaal, and 4 pass every general rule.
Travel windows in December 2026 that pass every general rule
| Date | Window (IST) | Moon nakshatra | Tithi, paksha |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday 14 December 2026 | 9:15 AM to 10:45 AM | Dhanishta | 5, Shukla |
| Monday 14 December 2026 | 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM | Dhanishta | 5, Shukla |
| Tuesday 15 December 2026 | 6:40 AM to 8:10 AM | Dhanishta | 6, Shukla |
| Tuesday 15 December 2026 | 9:15 AM to 10:45 AM | Dhanishta | 6, Shukla |
The 9:15 AM window on 14 December opens two minutes after the Moon passes from Shravana into Dhanishta (09:13 IST); both are on the travel list. No other window passes every rule; another 22 miss by exactly one factor:
| The one factor that fails | Windows in December 2026 (IST) |
|---|---|
| Nakshatra not on the list: 10 | 10 Dec, all three; 11 Dec, 6:40 AM and 3:30 PM; 21 Dec, 9:15 AM and 3:30 PM; 22 Dec, 6:40 AM and 9:15 AM; 24 Dec, 6:40 AM |
| Dark half (Krishna paksha): 6 | 3 Dec, 3:30 PM; 4 Dec, 6:40 AM; 8 Dec, 6:40 AM and 9:15 AM; 25 Dec, 6:40 AM and 3:30 PM |
| Weekday not on the list: 5 | 19 Dec, 6:40 AM and 3:30 PM (Saturday); 20 Dec, 6:40 AM and 9:15 AM (Sunday); 23 Dec, 3:30 PM (Wednesday) |
| Overlaps Rahu Kaal: 1 | 14 Dec, 6:40 AM |
| Tithi on the avoided list: 0 | None |
How the days are chosen: the five general factors
A window "passes every rule" when all five are favourable: the Moon's nakshatra, tithi and paksha at the window's start, Rahu Kaal and the weekday. That counts factors on the engine's lists; it is neither the engine's score nor a ruling from any text.
| Rule | On the list for travel in this engine | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Moon nakshatra | Ashwini, Mrigashira, Punarvasu, Pushya, Hasta, Anuradha, Shravana, Dhanishta or Revati | The engine's list; no text in the library holds it. |
| Tithi | Not the 4th, 8th, 9th or 14th tithi of either half (the engine counts 1 to 30: 4, 8, 9, 14 in the bright half, 19, 23, 24, 29 in the dark half) | The engine's list. Its comment calls 4, 9, 14 (and 19, 24, 29) Rikta and 8 and 23 Ashtami, and says no source book lists tithis to avoid. BPHS Ch. 89 Sl. 1-7, written for a different rite, asks for a day without Rikta-Bhadra Dosha but does not say which tithis are Rikta. |
| Paksha | Shukla, the waxing Moon | BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 11 and Saravali Ch. 4 Sl. 9 call the waning Moon a malefic; Saravali Ch. 4 Sl. 36 has benefics strong in the bright half. Reading that as good for a beginning is the engine's step. |
| Weekday | Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday | The engine's list; no citation. |
| Rahu Kaal | The window does not overlap it | The engine's weekday table, after Drik Panchang as its comment records. No text in the library mentions Rahu Kaal. |
Two personal factors, the Moon's house from your ascendant (or Moon sign) and your Personal Day number, are added only in the calculator and the in-app feature; the engine's travel house list (3, 9, 10, 11) cites no book either.
What the texts say about travel, and the junction check
The library gives no list of nakshatras, tithis or weekdays for setting out. It does hold rules for setting out, and the engine applies none of them. Saravali Ch. 3 Sl. 22 says a journey towards the direction of the rising sign, or of the Moon's sign, at its start yields fruitful results (it counts Aries east, Taurus south, Gemini west, Cancer north, and round again; Sl. 39 gives the Yavana school's variant, the direction ruled by the sign's lord). Daivajna Vallabha Ch. 15 Sl. 26-31 judges a journey by the ascendant at its start: the lord of its sign, its navamsa and its half-sign hora. These need the direction of travel, or a place and a minute, and the engine asks for neither. BPHS Ch. 11 puts a journey under the 3rd (Sl. 4) and travel under the 7th (Sl. 8); the engine's list, which cites no book, has the 3rd and leaves the 7th out.
The junction rule is gandanta. BPHS Ch. 92 Sl. 1 reads birth, travel and auspicious functions such as marriage at a junction of tithis, nakshatras or lagnas as inauspicious; this site does not repeat the outcome it names. Sl. 2 puts the tithi junctions at the last two ghatikas of tithis 5, 10 and 15 and the first two of tithis 1, 6 and 11; this page reads those numbers within each half of the month (20, 25, 30 and 16, 21, 26 in the engine's 1-30 count). Sl. 3 puts the nakshatra junctions between Revati and Ashwini, Ashlesha and Magha, Jyeshtha and Mula. A ghati is 24 minutes (Ch. 5 Sl. 6-8), so two is 48. The engine tests none of this, though Ashwini and Revati are on its travel list.
On the engine's change times, the four passing windows keep one nakshatra and one tithi throughout and overlap no 48-minute span; only 4 of the 93 windows do. The Moon crosses the Jyeshtha-Mula junction at 21:02 IST on 9 December, and Sl. 5 names a wider span at this junction, Abhukta Mula (the last six ghatikas of Jyeshtha and the first eight of Mula); it runs from about 18:38 IST on 9 December to 00:14 on 10 December. No listed window falls inside it. Two listed near misses touch a 48-minute span: 24 December 6:40 AM overlaps two tithi spans, and 3:30 PM on Saturday 19 December misses only the weekday rule, yet the Moon passes from Revati into Ashwini at 15:59 IST inside it, and the window overlaps both halves of that junction (3:11 to 4:47 PM).
Worked example: the same month ranked for one reference chart
With the two personal factors added, the engine ranks the month for a fixed reference chart (1985-01-01 06:00 IST, New Delhi, 28.6139 N, 77.2090 E). These five are that chart's alone; the engine calls the first three Excellent and the last two Good.
| Score | Window (IST) | The engine's reasons, shortened | General rule missed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 79 | Monday 14 December, 3:30 PM | Dhanishta; Moon in 3rd house; Shukla | None |
| 79 | Monday 14 December, 9:15 AM | Same as the row above | None |
| 79 | Friday 4 December, 6:40 AM | Hasta; Moon in 11th house; Personal Day 1 | Dark half |
| 77 | Thursday 3 December, 3:30 PM | Hasta; Moon in 11th house; Personal Day 9 | Dark half |
| 76 | Tuesday 15 December, 9:15 AM | Dhanishta; Shukla; Personal Day 3 | None |
Three of the five pass every rule. The 15 December window ranks last: the Moon is in this chart's 4th house that day, not on the travel list, and its Personal Day 3 line does not make up for that. The 6:40 AM window that day prints the same 76 and comes sixth. The other two miss only the dark-half rule.
Limits: what these windows cannot tell you
- They say nothing about weather, transport, health or safety on a journey, and a departure usually follows a timetable, not a 90-minute window.
- Three windows a day is a sample: 13 of December's 93 change nakshatra or tithi inside their 90 minutes. Times are IST on a fixed 06:00 to 18:00 Rahu Kaal grid, so a sunrise-based panchang can differ; the panchang, Choghadiya and Rahu Kaal calculators cover the whole day or a place.
- No window, whether it passes every rule or not, is a promise about a journey. The Muhurat calculator takes your birth date, time, place and one activity and returns the top three windows of the 30 days from the day you use it. See also November 2026 and January 2027.
- Why does 3:30 PM on 19 December, which misses only the weekday rule, need a second look?
- The Moon crosses the Revati-Ashwini junction at 15:59 IST inside the window, and BPHS Ch. 92 Sl. 1 names travel among the acts it reads at a junction.
- Why is Wednesday 23 December, 3:30 PM, in Mrigashira, not on the list?
- It misses only the weekday rule: the travel list has Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
- Does a window that passes every rule make a journey safe?
- No. It means five factors are on the favourable side of this app's lists; this app does not forecast how a journey will go.
- Is the window the time I book, leave or arrive?
- The texts above read a journey at its start, so leaving is the natural reading, but the calculator does not ask which moment you mean. Tickets and timetables usually fix it.

What it needs
Date, time and place + What the muhurat is for
That is more than this article asks for - it only ever takes a date, and sometimes a time, and never a name or a birth place. So this one runs on its own page, which asks for exactly what it needs and stores none of it.
