In short
This app scores a Libra Moon with a Capricorn Moon from 17 to 31 out of 36, median 23, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings with Libra entered first, and a point lower throughout with Capricorn first. Graha Maitri is full because Venus and Saturn are mutual friends and Bhakoot is full at 4/10, but Nadi is 0 in 53 pairings.
On the sign side, Libra and Capricorn are one of the stronger combinations in Guna Milan. Their lords, Venus and Saturn, name each other as friends, and the 4/10 distance keeps every Bhakoot point. The nakshatra side is another matter: the stars that dominate both signs share a Nadi, so a large share of pairings lose the koota worth most of all. The result is a pair whose ceiling is high and whose median is ordinary.
Each sign has a page: Libra, Tula rashi and Capricorn, Makara rashi. The nakshatra matching guide sets out the eight kootas; the Kundli matching calculator scores two real charts.
Tula and Makar, and Saturn's link to both
BPHS ties these two signs together through Saturn. Makar is Saturn's own sign: Ch. 4 Sl. 19-20 says it "is lorded by Sani", earthy, of Tamo-Gun, strong at night, with a quadruped first half and a second half "footless, moving in water". Tula is Venus's sign (Sl. 15-16.5: day-strong, Rajo-Gun, biped), but Ch. 3 Sl. 49-50 names Tula as the sign of Saturn's exaltation. That classical link is worth knowing; the engine does not use it, since Graha Maitri reads only the sign lords.
A Libra Moon is in Chitra (two padas), Swati (four) or Vishakha (three). A Capricorn Moon is in Uttara Ashadha (three), Shravana (four) or Dhanishta (two). The 81 combinations of those padas are scored below.
The kootas this sign pair fixes
| Koota | Out of | Libra first | Capricorn first | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | 0 | First class value compared with the second |
| Vashya | 2 | 0.5 | 0.5 | Groups two apart |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | 5 | 5 | Venus and Saturn list each other as friends |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 7 | 7 | Distance 4/10 does not fail |
Graha Maitri is full. The engine's lists from BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55 give Venus two friends, Mercury and Saturn, and Saturn two friends, Mercury and Venus. Each lord names the other, which is a mutual friendship and 5 points. Bhakoot is full too: Capricorn is the 4th sign from Libra and Libra the 10th from Capricorn, and the engine zeroes only 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8 - a rule from two agreeing web references, not from a book in this library.
Vashya is the weak sign koota at 0.5, the engine's lowest value, because the signs sit two groups apart in its table. Varna is order-dependent: 1 with Libra entered first, 0 with Capricorn first, since the engine compares the first value with the second. The engine's header lists this as unresolved. The word is the koota's technical name only.
The kootas the nakshatras decide
Yoni is the same in all 81 pairings: 2. Libra's Tiger and Buffalo meet Capricorn's Mongoose, Monkey and Lion, none matching and none an enemy pair in the engine's table. Tara is 1.5 in 61 pairings and 3 in 20.
Nadi is where the pair loses ground. Swati and Vishakha are Antya in the engine's table, and so are Uttara Ashadha and Shravana. That is seven padas on each side in the same Nadi, plus the two border stars, Chitra and Dhanishta, which are both Madhya. Same Nadi scores 0, in 53 of the 81 pairings; only 28 keep the 8.
Gana spreads evenly - 0 in 28 pairings, 3 in 27, 6 in 26. The zeroes come from Deva-Rakshasa crossings: a Swati Moon (Deva) with a Dhanishta Moon (Rakshasa), or a Chitra or Vishakha Moon (Rakshasa) with a Shravana Moon (Deva).
The range of totals
With Libra first, the engine's totals run from 17 to 31 out of 36, median 23. With Capricorn first, 16 to 30, median 22. The fixed part is 13.5 from the signs plus 2 from Yoni; the fourteen-point spread is Nadi, Gana and Tara.
The ceiling of 31 belongs to a Vishakha Moon with a Dhanishta Moon: both Rakshasa (Gana 6), Antya against Madhya (Nadi 8), with Tara at 1.5. The floor of 17 is reached, for example, by a Vishakha Moon with a Shravana Moon - same Antya Nadi, Rakshasa against Deva - with Tara again at 1.5. Vishakha appears at both ends; its partner decides which.
Dhanishta deserves a note. It has only two padas in Capricorn, but it is the one Capricorn star outside the Antya group, so it is the star most likely to give this pair its Nadi points - against Swati or Vishakha, though not against Chitra, which shares its Madhya Nadi.
This pair is a good illustration of how the 36 points are weighted. The four sign kootas can give at most 15, and Libra with Capricorn collects 13.5 of them (with Libra first) - very nearly everything. Yet the median is only 23, because the four nakshatra kootas carry the larger share, 21 points, and Nadi alone is worth 8 of those. A strong sign half sets a high floor for the score that the stars can add to; it does not by itself make the total high.
Uttara Ashadha, the first Capricorn star, shows the other side of the Nadi picture. It is Antya, so against a Libra Moon in Swati or Vishakha it loses the 8, while against Chitra it keeps it. It is also Manushya, which means its Gana against any Libra star is the middle value of 3, never 0 and never 6. A Capricorn Moon in Uttara Ashadha therefore tends to produce mid-range totals, with Chitra the partner that lifts it.
Which star applies depends on a birth time, which the nakshatra calculator turns into a star. Moon sign and nakshatra explains how stars and signs overlap.
Worked example: Libra 1 degree with Capricorn 1 degree
At 1 degree, the Libra Moon is in Chitra and the Capricorn Moon in Uttara Ashadha. Libra entered first:
| Koota | Score | Out of | What decided it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | Sign: first value not lower |
| Vashya | 0.5 | 2 | Sign: groups two apart |
| Tara | 1.5 | 3 | Nakshatra: one direction favourable |
| Yoni | 2 | 4 | Nakshatra: Tiger and Mongoose |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | 5 | Sign: Venus and Saturn, mutual friends |
| Gana | 3 | 6 | Nakshatra: Rakshasa and Manushya |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 7 | Sign: 4/10 |
| Nadi | 8 | 8 | Nakshatra: Madhya and Antya |
| Total | 28 | 36 |
At 28 the example is five points above the median, mostly because Chitra escapes the shared Antya Nadi. On Tara, the inclusive count from Chitra to Uttara Ashadha is 8, remainder 8, which passes; back from Uttara Ashadha to Chitra it is 21, remainder 3, which the engine treats as unfavourable. One of two gives 1.5.
Move the Libra Moon on into Swati and the same Capricorn Moon now shares its Antya Nadi; Nadi falls to 0, Gana stays at 3 (Deva and Manushya), and the total drops well under the median. The sign pair is identical in both cases; only the Libra Moon's star has changed, by a few degrees of arc.
What the classical texts say
BPHS supplies the sign descriptions, the exaltation of Saturn in Tula, and the friendship lists behind Graha Maitri. It does not contain Ashtakoot, and neither do Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras or Advanced Predictive Astrology. None addresses a Libra Moon with a Capricorn Moon as a match. The Bhakoot and Graha Maitri point values come from web references named in the engine.
What a score does not tell you
Full marks on the sign kootas are not a promise, and a shared Nadi is not a verdict. The total describes two Moon positions under a traditional scheme; this app does not tell anyone whether to marry. Nadi dosha explains the same-Nadi rule calmly, and Mars placement - a separate check - is covered in Mangal dosha: what it is and is not. The love compatibility calculator offers a non-Ashtakoot comparison.

- What is the Guna Milan score for a Libra Moon and a Capricorn Moon?
- From 17 to 31 out of 36 with Libra entered first (median 23), and 16 to 30 with Capricorn first (median 22), across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app.
- Are Venus and Saturn friends?
- Yes. In the engine's lists from BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55 each names the other as a friend, so Graha Maitri is the full 5.
- Why is Nadi 0 so often?
- Swati, Vishakha, Uttara Ashadha and Shravana are all Antya in the engine's table, covering seven padas of each sign. Same Nadi scores 0, which happens in 53 of 81 pairings.
- Does Saturn's exaltation in Libra affect the score?
- Not in this engine. BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 49-50 names Tula as Saturn's exaltation sign, but Graha Maitri reads only the two sign lords and their natural friendship.
- Does the order of entry matter?
- Yes, by one point: the engine's Varna koota scores 1 with Libra first and 0 with Capricorn first.
- How do we get our real score?
- Enter both birth details in the match tool. Whether your stars share a Nadi is the biggest single question for this pair.
