In plain words
- For a Taurus Moon, Saturn's 7½-year phase (Sade Sati) is Saturn's time in Aries, Taurus and Gemini. It tends to ask for patience and steady habits.
- The phase comes in three parts of about two and a half years. In the first, Saturn is in Aries, your 12th house (expenses, rest, letting go). In the middle, Saturn is in Taurus, over your Moon sign (your mind and emotions). In the last, Saturn is in Gemini, your 2nd house (money, family, speech). This phase begins in 2027, with a short pause late in the year.
- The app reads the first two parts as testing and the last as steadier: slow, disciplined progress. The phase tends to bring a wish to save money, read agreements twice, keep targets in writing and avoid rash moves in work and money. Saturn can also pause for a few months and return, because it moves backwards for part of each year.
- In daily life, you may feel more tired or serious than usual. You may want fewer, more important commitments.
- Under strain you may feel low or lose interest in things. Regular sleep, regular meals and time with people you trust help, and a doctor is the right person for any health worry.
- Why: Saturn (discipline, patience, responsibility) moves through the sign before your Moon sign, your Moon sign and the sign after it. The Moon stands for mind, mood and emotions, so Saturn near it tends to slow and sober your inner life.
- Keep a money reserve for the whole phase and write your work or study targets down.
- This phase is a later tradition and is not named in the oldest texts. It is a period asking for steadiness, not a prediction of bad events or an omen.
For a Moon in Taurus (Vrishabha), Sade Sati is Saturn's passage through Aries, Taurus and Gemini, the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs from the Moon sign. The cycle that contains 2027 runs from 2 June 2027 to 12 July 2034 in this app's computation, with one pause of 125 days. The rule, with the dates for all twelve Moon signs, is on the Sade Sati page; the sign is described in Taurus, Vrishabha rashi.
Nothing here says what will happen to anyone: everyone born with the Moon in sidereal Taurus shares these dates, whatever their ascendant or dasha. The Sade Sati calculator checks a birth date.
Dates: every stay of Saturn in Aries, Taurus and Gemini
The table lists each stay of Saturn during the cycle that contains 2027, including the pause. Where Saturn turns retrograde (vakri) near a sign boundary it leaves and returns, and each crossing is its own row. Degrees are the lowest and highest Saturn reaches in a stay inside the three signs.
| Saturn in | From (UTC) | To (UTC) | Days | Degrees | Phase for a Taurus Moon |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | 2 Jun 2027 | 21 Oct 2027 | 141 | 0.00-3.71 | Rising (12th) |
| Pisces (turned back) | 21 Oct 2027 | 22 Feb 2028 | 125 | - | Not active (11th) |
| Aries | 22 Feb 2028 | 6 Aug 2029 | 531 | 0.00-30.00 | Rising again (12th) |
| Taurus | 6 Aug 2029 | 6 Oct 2029 | 61 | 0.00-0.81 | Peak (1st) |
| Aries (re-entered retrograde) | 6 Oct 2029 | 16 Apr 2030 | 192 | 23.88-30.00 | Rising again (12th) |
| Taurus | 16 Apr 2030 | 30 May 2032 | 775 | 0.00-30.00 | Peak again (1st) |
| Gemini | 30 May 2032 | 12 Jul 2034 | 773 | 0.00-30.00 | Setting (2nd) |
Dates are UTC. Three changes fall after 18:30 UTC, and so on the following calendar day in India: 6 August 2029 at 23:54 (7 August), 6 October 2029 at 19:39 (7 October) and 12 July 2034 at 23:09 (13 July). One falls within an hour of midnight in India: 22 February 2028 at 18:19 UTC (23:49 that day). Other software can differ by hours to a day or two near an ingress; why Sade Sati dates differ between sources explains how.
- The pause is spent in the 11th from the Moon. From 21 October 2027 to 22 February 2028 Saturn is in Pisces: the Sade Sati check reads not active, and the Gochara rules read the 11th as favourable for every graha.
- The peak is two stays, of 61 and 775 days, with Saturn back in Aries between them.
All cycles between 1990 and 2060
A Taurus Moon has two complete Sade Sati cycles in this app's 1990-2060 scan, and a third that the scan cuts off.
| Cycle (first entry to final exit, UTC) | Span | Days inside | Pauses |
|---|---|---|---|
| 18 Apr 1998 to 27 May 2005 | 2,596 days | 2,470 | One, of 126 days |
| 2 Jun 2027 to 12 Jul 2034 | 2,598 days | 2,473 | One, of 125 days |
Only one of the four dates is at or after 17:30 UTC: the final exit of 12 July 2034, at 23:09 UTC, is 13 July in India.
The 1998 cycle had Saturn inside the three signs on 2,470 of its 2,596 days; its pause was 126 days with Saturn in Cancer, the 3rd. Its parts were 782 days of rising phase, 869 of peak in two stays and 819 of setting in three: Saturn crossed between Taurus and Gemini three times, on 24 July 2002, 6 January 2003 and 9 April 2003, and the pause split the setting phase once more.
The scan ends in 2060 while a further cycle is under way, so no start, end or length is quoted for it. Its stays by date: Saturn in Aries from 8 April 2057 to 29 May 2059, and in Taurus from 29 May 2059 (a stay the scan cuts).
The three phases for a Taurus Moon
The engine names the phases after the three dhaiyas (two-and-a-half-year portions) and shows one sentence beside whichever is active: "A classical ~7.5-year period of intensified pressure and restructuring - traditionally read as a time to consolidate rather than expand, not as an omen" (the engine's wording; the period is not named in BPHS or Saravali, as shown below). The Gochar calculator adds a verdict for Saturn in each sign.
- Rising, Saturn in Aries (12th): 864 days across three stays in the 2027-2034 cycle. Gochara verdict: testing. See Saturn transit in Aries.
- Peak, Saturn in Taurus (1st): 836 days across two stays. Gochara verdict: testing, and the engine raises its "intensified" flag, because its table pairs Saturn with the 1st from the Moon; Advanced Predictive Astrology (Vol. II, p. 311) gives the same pairing from a Tamil palm-leaf reading. See Saturn transit in Taurus.
- Setting, Saturn in Gemini (2nd): 773 days in one stay. Gochara verdict: favourable, "steady, disciplined progress". The two rule sets part here, and the app shows both. See Saturn transit in Gemini.
What the texts say, and what they do not
Sade Sati is a later tradition: a search of BPHS (both copies in the library), Saravali and the Bhrigu Sutras for "sade", "sadhe", "seven and a half" and "dhaiya" finds no passage that names it, and what BPHS and Saravali hold is Saturn's transit read through the Ashtakavarga (BPHS Ch. 66 Sl. 70-72 and Ch. 70 Sl. 43-44; Saravali Ch. 53 Sl. 1 and 9-10, whose "benefic dots" are BPHS's Rekhas). The corpus book that names the period is the modern Advanced Predictive Astrology (Vol. II, Ch. 7, pp. 311-312), which defines it as Saturn in the 12th, 1st and 2nd from the Moon, "once in 30 yrs". The Sade Sati page sets out the whole account.
Advanced Predictive Astrology (p. 312) reports a school of thought in North India that names, for each Moon sign, the portion of Sade Sati in which the results are adverse; for Taurus it gives "first 2.5 yrs". The book counts years, not signs. This page reads the first portion as the rising phase, because the engine pairs each of its three phases with one dhaiya: for this cycle that is the three Saturn-in-Aries stays, 864 days. The engine ignores the list; house by house, the same signs are read on Saturn transit for Taurus Moon sign.
Saravali Ch. 53 Sl. 9-10 adds that Saturn, like the Moon, gives its transit results while in the end portion of a sign. The text does not say how large that portion is. The one retrograde return inside the three signs is Saturn's return to Aries from 6 October 2029, spent between 23.88 and 30.00 degrees.
Saravali Ch. 53 Sl. 9-10 also qualifies the Ashtakavarga reading by sign: benefic results predominate when the sign transited is one of exaltation, own or friendly, and malefic results in debilitation or an enemy's sign. Saturn spends the rising phase in Aries, its sign of debilitation (BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 49-50). Taurus is Venus's sign (BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 8) and Gemini is Mercury's (Sl. 9-9½); neither is Saturn's own sign nor its exaltation or debilitation, and computed with no birth chart the engine labels both friendly signs for Saturn, the natural relation only, as in Saravali Ch. 4 Sl. 28-29, which names Mercury and Venus as Saturn's friends. The engine's verdict looks at the house only.
Advanced Predictive Astrology (p. 312) also says that once Saturn enters the 3rd sign from the Moon the person turns "a new leaf". For a Taurus Moon that sign is Cancer, which Saturn enters on 12 July 2034 at 23:09 UTC (13 July in India).
What changes the reading for one chart
A phase is a calendar position computed from the Moon sign alone. The sources name more.
- Saturn's own condition. Advanced Predictive Astrology (pp. 311-312) sets the rule aside for a yogakaraka Saturn well placed with benefic association or aspect, and says the period "does not make much difference" when the Moon is with Saturn at birth. Both depend on the birth chart; see Saturn in Vedic astrology.
- Saturn's Ashtakavarga table (BPHS Ch. 70 Sl. 43-44). The counts for the three signs are chart-specific. This BPHS translation calls the favourable marks Rekhas and the unfavourable ones dots; the Ashtakavarga calculator counts the favourable ones and calls them bindus.
- The running dasha. Advanced Predictive Astrology (p. 312) treats a Saturn Mahadasha together with Sade Sati as the heavier combination. The Vimshottari Dasha calculator and the Timing feature show the periods.
What to take care of
The later transit writing reads Sade Sati as a testing period and names the areas. Advanced Predictive Astrology (Vol. II, pp. 311-312) writes of "much depression, disappointment" and "lack of interest in any matter in life", one modern author's reading of a transit, not a medical statement. It adds trouble concentrating on studies; delayed promotion, a disliked transfer, financial loss and quarrels with superiors or subordinates early in a career; and tension, travel, threats from enemies and theft. Phaladeepika Ch. 26 Sl. 9, as Advanced Predictive Astrology quotes it (p. 312), gives fatigue, loss of wealth and anger for Saturn's passage through the Janma Rasi, which for a Taurus Moon is Taurus. The book's list goes on to graver events and to named people's lives; this page leaves those out, as this app does not forecast such events.
- Money: keep some savings in reserve for the whole period, avoid large unsecured loans, and read any contract twice before signing.
- Work and study: agree targets in writing, raise a misunderstanding with a senior early and calmly, think a transfer or job change through before accepting it, and keep a steady study routine.
- Health and travel: book the check-up you have been postponing, rest when you are tired, drive with care on long trips and keep documents and valuables safe when travelling. This is not a diagnosis - see a doctor for any symptom.
- Mind: keep regular sleep and meals, and stay in touch with people you trust. If you feel low for more than two weeks, talk to someone you trust or call Tele-MANAS 14416 (free, 24x7, India).
Saturn's other two named positions from a Taurus Moon have their own pages: Ardha Ashtama Shani and Ashtama Shani. The movements of 2027, with Jupiter and Rahu, are in 2027 for Taurus Moon sign; the term is in the glossary as Sade Sati.
- Is Sade Sati off while Saturn is in Pisces from 21 October 2027 to 22 February 2028?
- By the engine's rule, yes: Pisces is the 11th from a Taurus Moon, so the check reads not active for those 125 days. It is the same cycle, not a new one, because Saturn returns to Aries on 22 February 2028 (23:49 that day in India, within an hour of midnight).
- Does the 61-day touch of Taurus in 2029 count as the peak phase?
- Yes. Saturn enters Taurus, the Moon sign itself, on 6 August 2029 at 23:54 UTC (7 August in India) and leaves on 6 October at 19:39 UTC (7 October). For those 61 days the check reads peak; Saturn is then back in Aries until it returns to the Moon sign on 16 April 2030.
- Which other Sade Sati cycles does a Taurus Moon have between 1990 and 2060?
- One from 18 April 1998 to 27 May 2005 (2,596 days from first entry to final exit, with a 126-day pause), before the 2027-2034 cycle (2,598 days). A further cycle is cut off by the scan, so its start, end and length are not quoted; its stays by date are above.
- Why might another source give a different date for 2 June 2027?
- Saturn enters Aries at 05:12 UTC on 2 June 2027 in this app (10:42 in India). Another ayanamsa, time zone or algorithm can place an ingress hours to a day or two away; why Sade Sati dates differ between sources explains how.
