In short

For an Aries Moon, Sade Sati is Saturn in Pisces, Aries and Taurus. In this app's computation the cycle that contains 2027 runs from 29 March 2025 to 30 May 2032 with no pause, and Saturn is over the Moon sign itself in three stays between 2 June 2027 and 16 April 2030. BPHS does not name the period; Advanced Predictive Astrology does.

In plain words

  • For an Aries Moon, Saturn's 7½-year phase (Sade Sati) is Saturn's time in Pisces, Aries and Taurus. It tends to ask for patience and steady habits.
  • The phase comes in three parts of about two and a half years. In the first, Saturn is in Pisces, your 12th house (expenses, rest, letting go). In the middle, Saturn is in Aries, over your Moon sign (your mind and emotions). In the last, Saturn is in Taurus, your 2nd house (money, family, speech). In 2027 this phase is already under way.
  • The app reads the first two parts as testing and the last as steadier: slow, disciplined progress. The phase tends to bring a wish to save money, read agreements twice, keep targets in writing and avoid rash moves in work and money. Saturn can also pause for a few months and return, because it moves backwards for part of each year.
  • In daily life, you may feel more tired or serious than usual. You may want fewer, more important commitments.
  • Under strain you may feel low or lose interest in things. Regular sleep, regular meals and time with people you trust help, and a doctor is the right person for any health worry.
  • Why: Saturn (discipline, patience, responsibility) moves through the sign before your Moon sign, your Moon sign and the sign after it. The Moon stands for mind, mood and emotions, so Saturn near it tends to slow and sober your inner life.
  • Keep a money reserve for the whole phase and write your work or study targets down.
  • This phase is a later tradition and is not named in the oldest texts. It is a period asking for steadiness, not a prediction of bad events or an omen.

For a Moon in Aries (Mesha), Sade Sati is Saturn's passage through Pisces, Aries and Taurus, the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs from the Moon sign. The cycle that contains 2027 runs from 29 March 2025 to 30 May 2032 in this app's computation, and for an Aries Moon it has no pause. The rule, with the dates for all twelve Moon signs, is on the Sade Sati page; the sign is described in Aries, Mesha rashi.

Nothing here says what will happen to anyone: everyone born with the Moon in sidereal Aries shares these dates, whatever their ascendant or dasha. The Sade Sati calculator checks a birth date.

Dates: every stay of Saturn in Pisces, Aries and Taurus

The table lists each stay of Saturn in the three signs during the cycle that contains 2027. Where Saturn turns retrograde (vakri) near a sign boundary it leaves and returns, and each crossing is its own row. Degrees are the lowest and highest Saturn reaches in a stay.

This app's computation (Lahiri ayanamsa): a check script sade-sati aries and a check script, run 2026-10-22. UTC, to the day. Days are the time between the helper's UTC timestamps, rounded to whole days, so a row can differ by one from counting the calendar dates shown; the stays add up to 2,620 days.

Dates are UTC. Two changes fall after 18:30 UTC, and so on the following calendar day in India: 6 August 2029 at 23:54 (7 August) and 6 October 2029 at 19:39 (7 October). One falls within an hour of midnight in India: 22 February 2028 at 18:19 UTC (23:49 that day). Other software can differ by hours to a day or two near an ingress; why Sade Sati dates differ between sources explains why.

  • The peak is three stays, of 141, 531 and 192 days, because Saturn leaves Aries twice and returns each time.
  • The first return begins with a station. Saturn turns retrograde at 3.71 degrees of Aries on 9 August 2027, at 19:06 UTC (00:36 on 10 August in India, within an hour of midnight). Station detail is on Saturn retrograde 2026-2028.

All cycles between 1990 and 2060

An Aries Moon has two complete Sade Sati cycles in this app's 1990-2060 scan, and a third that the scan cuts off.

a check script sade-sati aries, run 2026-10-22. Days inside counts only days with Saturn in Pisces, Aries or Taurus.

None of the four dates in the table falls at or after 17:30 UTC, so each is the same date in India.

The 1995 cycle took 2,866 days from first entry to final exit but had Saturn inside the three signs on 2,506: it was out for 194 days in 1995-96 (Saturn in Aquarius, the 11th) and 166 days in 2002-03 (Saturn in Gemini, the 3rd). The Sade Sati page lays the 1995 cycle out stay by stay.

The scan ends in 2060 while a further cycle is under way, so no start, end or length is quoted for it. Its stays by date: Saturn in Pisces from 16 May to 30 August 2054 and from 6 February 2055 to 8 April 2057, in Aries from 8 April 2057 to 29 May 2059, and in Taurus from 29 May 2059 (a stay the scan cuts). The 6 February 2055 return is at 18:14 UTC, within an hour of midnight in India.

The three phases for an Aries Moon

The engine names the phases after the three dhaiyas (two-and-a-half-year portions) and shows one sentence beside whichever is active: "A classical ~7.5-year period of intensified pressure and restructuring - traditionally read as a time to consolidate rather than expand, not as an omen" (the engine's wording; the period is not named in BPHS or Saravali, as shown below). The Gochar calculator adds a verdict for Saturn in each sign.

  • Rising, Saturn in Pisces (12th): 920 days across two stays in the 2025-2032 cycle. Gochara verdict: testing. See Saturn transit in Pisces.
  • Peak, Saturn in Aries (1st): 864 days across three stays. Gochara verdict: testing, and the engine raises its "intensified" flag, because its table pairs Saturn with the 1st from the Moon; Advanced Predictive Astrology (Vol. II, p. 311) gives the same pairing from a Tamil palm-leaf reading. See Saturn transit in Aries.
  • Setting, Saturn in Taurus (2nd): 836 days across two stays. Gochara verdict: favourable, "steady, disciplined progress". The two rule sets part here, and the app shows both. See Saturn transit in Taurus.

What the texts say, and what they do not

Sade Sati is a later tradition: a search of BPHS (both copies in the library), Saravali and the Bhrigu Sutras for "sade", "sadhe", "seven and a half" and "dhaiya" finds no passage that names it, and what BPHS and Saravali hold is Saturn's transit read through the Ashtakavarga (BPHS Ch. 66 Sl. 70-72 and Ch. 70 Sl. 43-44; Saravali Ch. 53 Sl. 1 and 9-10, whose "benefic dots" are BPHS's Rekhas). The corpus book that names the period is the modern Advanced Predictive Astrology (Vol. II, Ch. 7, pp. 311-312), which defines it as Saturn in the 12th, 1st and 2nd from the Moon, "once in 30 yrs". The Sade Sati page sets out the whole account.

Advanced Predictive Astrology (p. 312) reports a school of thought in North India that names, for each Moon sign, the portion of Sade Sati in which the results are adverse; for Aries it gives "Middle 2.5 yrs". The book counts years, not signs. This page reads the middle portion as the peak, because the engine pairs each of its three phases with one dhaiya: for this cycle that is the three Saturn-in-Aries stays, 864 days. The engine ignores the list; house by house, the same signs are read on Saturn transit for Aries Moon sign.

Saravali Ch. 53 Sl. 9-10 adds that Saturn, like the Moon, gives its transit results while in the end portion of a sign. The text does not say how large that portion is. Both retrograde re-entries in this cycle are spent in the last degrees of a sign: Pisces between 26.85 and 30.00 degrees from 21 October 2027, and Aries between 23.88 and 30.00 from 6 October 2029.

Saravali Ch. 53 Sl. 9-10 also qualifies the Ashtakavarga reading by sign: benefic results predominate when the sign transited is one of exaltation, own or friendly, and malefic results in debilitation or an enemy's sign. Saturn spends the peak phase in Aries, its sign of debilitation (BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 49-50). Pisces, Jupiter's sign (BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 22-24), is neither Saturn's own sign nor its exaltation or debilitation, and the engine computes it as neutral; Saravali Ch. 4 Sl. 28-29 agrees, naming Mercury and Venus as Saturn's friends and the Sun, Moon and Mars as its enemies, and Jupiter neither. Taurus is Venus's sign (BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 8); computed with no birth chart, the engine labels it a friendly sign for Saturn, the natural relation only. The engine's verdict looks at the house only.

Advanced Predictive Astrology (p. 312) also says that once Saturn enters the 3rd sign from the Moon the person turns "a new leaf". For an Aries Moon that sign is Gemini, which Saturn enters on 30 May 2032 in this app's computation.

What changes the reading for one chart

A phase is a calendar position computed from the Moon sign alone. The sources name more.

  • Saturn's own condition. Advanced Predictive Astrology (pp. 311-312) sets the rule aside for a yogakaraka Saturn well placed with benefic association or aspect, and says the period "does not make much difference" when the Moon is with Saturn at birth. Both depend on the birth chart; see Saturn in Vedic astrology.
  • Saturn's Ashtakavarga table (BPHS Ch. 70 Sl. 43-44). The counts for the three signs are chart-specific. This BPHS translation calls the favourable marks Rekhas and the unfavourable ones dots; the Ashtakavarga calculator counts the favourable ones and calls them bindus.
  • The running dasha. Advanced Predictive Astrology (p. 312) treats a Saturn Mahadasha together with Sade Sati as the heavier combination. The Vimshottari Dasha calculator and the Timing feature show the periods.

What to take care of

The later transit writing reads Sade Sati as a testing period and names the areas. Advanced Predictive Astrology (Vol. II, pp. 311-312) writes of "much depression, disappointment" and "lack of interest in any matter in life", one modern author's reading of a transit, not a medical statement. It adds trouble concentrating on studies; delayed promotion, a disliked transfer, financial loss and quarrels with superiors or subordinates early in a career; and tension, travel, threats from enemies and theft. Phaladeepika Ch. 26 Sl. 9, as Advanced Predictive Astrology quotes it (p. 312), gives fatigue, loss of wealth and anger for Saturn's passage through the Janma Rasi, which for an Aries Moon is Aries. The book's list goes on to graver events and to named people's lives; this page leaves those out, as this app does not forecast such events.

  • Money: keep savings for the whole period, avoid large unsecured loans, and read contracts twice before signing.
  • Work and study: write down agreed targets, raise a misunderstanding with a senior early and calmly, think a transfer or job change through before accepting it, and keep a steady study routine.
  • Health and travel: get the check-up you have been postponing, rest when you are tired, drive with care on long trips and keep documents and valuables safe when travelling. This is not a diagnosis - see a doctor for any symptom.
  • Mind: keep regular sleep, meals and contact with people you trust. If you feel low for more than two weeks, talk to someone you trust or call Tele-MANAS 14416 (free, 24x7, India).

Saturn's other two named positions from an Aries Moon have their own pages: Ardha Ashtama Shani and Ashtama Shani. The movements of 2027, with Jupiter and Rahu, are in 2027 for Aries Moon sign; the term is in the glossary as Sade Sati.

When does the peak phase begin for an Aries Moon, and does it run without a break?
It begins on 2 June 2027, when Saturn first enters Aries, the Moon sign itself (10:42 in India), and comes in three stays: to 21 October 2027, from 22 February 2028 to 6 August 2029, and from 6 October 2029 to 16 April 2030 (UTC). Between them Saturn is back in Pisces (rising) or in Taurus (setting).
Does Saturn turning retrograde in August 2027 change the phase?
No. The Sade Sati check compares signs only and does not look at retrograde motion. The station matters for the dates: it is what sends Saturn back from Aries to Pisces on 21 October 2027.
Which other Sade Sati cycles does an Aries Moon have between 1990 and 2060?
One from 4 June 1995 to 9 April 2003 (2,866 days from first entry to final exit), before the 2025-2032 cycle (2,620 days). A further cycle is cut off by the scan, so its start, end and length are not quoted; its stays by date are above.
Why might another source give a different date for 29 March 2025?
Saturn enters Pisces at 00:28 UTC on 29 March 2025 in this app (05:58 in India). Another ayanamsa, time zone or algorithm can place an ingress hours to a day or two away; why Sade Sati dates differ between sources explains how.

Now on yourself

Sade Sati

The classical Saturn period - the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs from the natal Moon.

A birth time is optional. Without one this is read at local noon on your birth date - and the Moon moves about 13 degrees in a day, so add the time if you know it.

No place is asked for on this page, so the time is read as Indian Standard Time (IST). Born outside India? Run it on its own page, where you can add the place.

This date is sent only to compute the answer. Nothing is stored, no account is created, and no email is asked for.
