In short
With Scorpio entered first, this app scores a Scorpio-Aquarius pair from 12.5 to 28 out of 36, median 20.5, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings; Aquarius first adds a point. The 4/10 square keeps Bhakoot at 7, Saturn's enmity towards Mars keeps Graha Maitri at 1, and Nadi is 0 in 36 pairings.
Scorpio and Aquarius are both fixed signs, square to each other at the 4/10 distance, ruled by Mars and Saturn. For Guna Milan they share their sign-side profile with the Scorpio-Capricorn pair - the same lords, a full Bhakoot - but their stars behave quite differently. Here the Nadi koota is lost far more often, and almost all of that loss is concentrated on one Scorpio star. Knowing which star a Scorpio Moon occupies tells you most of what this pairing will score.
For the signs see Scorpio, Vrishchika rashi and Aquarius, Kumbha rashi. The nakshatra matching guide lays out the kootas; the Kundli matching calculator scores two real charts.
Vrischik and Kumbh in BPHS
BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 5-5.5 lists the signs as movable, fixed and dual in turn, which makes both Vrischik (8th) and Kumbh (11th) fixed signs. Beyond that the text describes them differently. Vrischik is slender, "resides in holes", resorts to water and land, is strong by day and ruled by Mangal. Kumbh "represents a man holding a pot", is of medium build, "very strong in daytime", airy and Tamasic, "resorts to deep water", and has Shani as its lord. Both are day-strong and both are linked with water in the text, though Kumbh is classed as an airy sign.
A Scorpio Moon sits in the last pada of Vishakha, or in Anuradha or Jyeshtha (four padas each). An Aquarius Moon sits in Dhanishta (two padas), Shatabhisha (four) or Purva Bhadrapada (three).
The kootas this sign pair fixes
| Koota | Out of | Scorpio first | Aquarius first | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 0 | 1 | Order-dependent class comparison |
| Vashya | 2 | 1 | 1 | Adjacent groups |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | 1 | 1 | Mars neutral to Saturn; Saturn hostile to Mars |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 7 | 7 | 4/10 does not fail |
The lords score as they do for Scorpio with Capricorn, since Saturn rules both Capricorn and Aquarius. In the engine's lists from BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55, Saturn counts Mars an enemy and Mars counts Saturn neutral, so Graha Maitri is 1. The engine notes that its references disagree on the neutral-enemy value and kept its earlier 1.
Bhakoot is full: Aquarius is the 4th sign from Scorpio and Scorpio the 10th from Aquarius. The engine zeroes only 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8, a rule from two agreeing web references rather than from any book in this library. Varna depends on order: the engine gives the point when the first-entered class value is not lower than the second, so 0 with Scorpio first and 1 with Aquarius first. Its header lists this as unresolved. Varna names the koota only.
The kootas the nakshatras decide
Yoni is 2 in every pairing: Scorpio's Tiger and Deer and Aquarius's Lion and Horse never match and never form one of the engine's enemy pairs. Tara is 1.5 in 62 pairings and 3 in 19.
Nadi is where this pair parts company with Scorpio-Capricorn. Jyeshtha is Aadi in the engine's table, and so are Shatabhisha and Purva Bhadrapada - seven of Aquarius's nine padas. A Jyeshtha Moon therefore loses Nadi against most Aquarius Moons. Add Anuradha with Dhanishta (both Madhya) and the total is 36 same-Nadi pairings out of 81; 45 keep the 8. The single Vishakha pada, which is Antya, never loses Nadi here.
Gana runs 6 in 30 pairings, 3 in 27, 0 in 24. Dhanishta and Shatabhisha are Rakshasa, Purva Bhadrapada Manushya. A Rakshasa Scorpio star (Vishakha, Jyeshtha) with a Rakshasa Aquarius star gives 6; Anuradha, the Deva star, against Dhanishta or Shatabhisha gives 0; Purva Bhadrapada gives 3 against all.
The range of totals
With Scorpio first, the engine's totals run from 12.5 to 28 out of 36, median 20.5. With Aquarius first: 13.5 to 29, median 21.5. The fixed part is 9 from the signs plus 2 from Yoni; Gana, Nadi and Tara supply the rest.
The floor of 12.5 is an Anuradha Moon with a Dhanishta Moon: shared Madhya Nadi, Deva against Rakshasa, Tara 1.5. The ceiling of 28 is a Vishakha Moon with a Shatabhisha Moon: both Rakshasa, Antya against Aadi, and Tara favourable both ways. The median of 20.5 reflects how often Nadi is lost - mostly through Jyeshtha - since a lost Nadi caps a pairing at 20 or below.
The three Scorpio stars behave as three different cases. Vishakha keeps Nadi everywhere and wins Gana against the two Rakshasa stars of Aquarius, so it scores high throughout. Anuradha keeps Nadi except against Dhanishta, but loses Gana against Dhanishta and Shatabhisha. Jyeshtha wins Gana against Dhanishta and Shatabhisha yet loses Nadi against Shatabhisha and Purva Bhadrapada. The same Aquarius Moon can be a strong or a weak pairing depending on which of the three it meets.
The comparison with the other Saturn-ruled sign is instructive. A Scorpio Moon with a Capricorn Moon has exactly the same four sign kootas, and engine runs over the same 81 pairings put its median at 23.5 with Scorpio first (see Scorpio and Capricorn). Here the median is 20.5. The three-point difference has nothing to do with Mars, Saturn or the sign distance; it comes from the stars, and specifically from how many of them share Jyeshtha's Aadi Nadi. Two sign pairs that look identical on the sign side can differ noticeably once the nakshatras are counted.
Purva Bhadrapada is the gentlest of the Aquarius stars for Gana - as a Manushya star it gives 3 against everything - but against Jyeshtha it shares the Aadi Nadi. An Aquarius Moon there is therefore a solid partner for Vishakha or Anuradha and a weaker one for Jyeshtha.
A birth time decides which star applies; the nakshatra calculator finds it, and Moon sign and nakshatra explains the layering.
Worked example: Scorpio 1 degree with Aquarius 1 degree
At 1 degree, the Scorpio Moon is in Vishakha and the Aquarius Moon in Dhanishta. Scorpio entered first:
| Koota | Score | Out of | What decided it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 0 | 1 | Sign: first value lower |
| Vashya | 1 | 2 | Sign: adjacent groups |
| Tara | 1.5 | 3 | Nakshatra: one direction favourable |
| Yoni | 2 | 4 | Nakshatra: Tiger and Lion |
| Graha Maitri | 1 | 5 | Sign: Mars neutral, Saturn hostile |
| Gana | 6 | 6 | Nakshatra: Rakshasa and Rakshasa |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 7 | Sign: 4/10 |
| Nadi | 8 | 8 | Nakshatra: Antya and Madhya |
| Total | 26.5 | 36 |
The example sits six points above the median, a fair picture of how the Vishakha pada does in this pair. Gana and Nadi are both full; the gap to 36 is on the sign side (Varna, Vashya, Graha Maitri) and on Tara and Yoni.
Tara by hand: the engine counts inclusively from one star to the other, both ways, and treats a remainder of 3, 5 or 7 after dividing by 9 as unfavourable. Vishakha to Dhanishta is 8, which passes; Dhanishta back to Vishakha is 21, remainder 3, which fails - hence 1.5. Against Shatabhisha instead, the counts are 9 and 20, both favourable, and Tara rises to 3; that is the ceiling pairing.
What the classical texts say
BPHS supplies the sign descriptions and the friendship lists behind Graha Maitri. The library contains no Ashtakoot text: BPHS, Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras and Advanced Predictive Astrology were searched for bhakoot, koota, kuta, nadi, gana and yoni with no matching rule found, and none speaks to Scorpio with Aquarius as a pairing.
What a score does not tell you
None of these totals is a judgement on two people, and this app does not issue verdicts on marriage. Mars rules Scorpio, but Mangal dosha is a separate check on where Mars sits in each chart; Mangal dosha: what it is and is not explains it. Nadi dosha covers the same-Nadi rule, and the love compatibility calculator gives a lighter comparison.

- What is the Guna Milan score for a Scorpio Moon and an Aquarius Moon?
- From 12.5 to 28 out of 36 with Scorpio entered first (median 20.5), and 13.5 to 29 with Aquarius first (median 21.5), across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app.
- Why do Jyeshtha Moons often score lower here?
- Jyeshtha is Aadi in the engine's Nadi table, as are Shatabhisha and Purva Bhadrapada. Same Nadi scores 0 on the koota worth 8.
- Is Bhakoot dosha present?
- No. The signs are 4 and 10 apart, which the engine does not penalise. Bhakoot is 7 in every pairing.
- Which Scorpio star does best with an Aquarius Moon?
- The single Scorpio pada of Vishakha. It is Antya, so it never shares a Nadi with an Aquarius star, and as a Rakshasa star it scores full Gana against Dhanishta and Shatabhisha.
- Does entry order matter?
- Yes, by one point through Varna: 0 with Scorpio first, 1 with Aquarius first.
- How do we find our own score?
- Enter both birth details in the match tool. Your stars decide Gana, Nadi and Tara.
