In short
This app scores a Scorpio Moon with a Pisces Moon from 11.5 to 27 out of 36, median 22, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings, the same in either order. Graha Maitri and Vashya are full and Mars and Jupiter are mutual friends, but the 5/9 trine between these water signs sets Bhakoot to 0 under the rule adopted in October 2026.
Scorpio and Pisces are water signs in trine, ruled by Mars and Jupiter, two grahas that list each other as friends. If any pair were expected to score well in Guna Milan, it might be this one, and on three of the four sign kootas it does. The exception is Bhakoot: since October 2026 the engine scores the 5/9 distance as 0, and seven points go with it. This page explains that change, what the nakshatras add, and why the order of entry does not matter here.
For the signs see Scorpio, Vrishchika rashi and Pisces, Meena rashi. The nakshatra matching guide covers the system; the Kundli matching calculator gives a real score.
Vrischik and Meen in BPHS
BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 5-5.5 puts both signs in the phlegmatic group, with Kark. Vrischik, in the passage after Sl. 16.5, is slender, a centipede sign that "resides in holes", "very sharp (or passionate)", ruled by Mangal and strong by day. Meen (Sl. 22-24) "resembles a pair of fish", is watery, "strong at night", "predominant with Sattva-Gun", footless, and "denotes resoluteness"; its ruler is Guru. The text pairs the two by temperament and element but gives them opposite times of strength.
A Scorpio Moon is in the last pada of Vishakha, or in Anuradha or Jyeshtha. A Pisces Moon is in the last pada of Purva Bhadrapada, or in Uttara Bhadrapada or Revati. Each sign therefore has a one-pada star at its start and two four-pada stars after it.
The kootas this sign pair fixes
| Koota | Out of | Scorpio with Pisces | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | Same class value; order cannot matter |
| Vashya | 2 | 2 | Same Vashya group |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | 5 | Mars and Jupiter list each other as friends |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 0 | Pisces is 5th from Scorpio; Scorpio is 9th from Pisces |
Graha Maitri is full: in the engine's lists from BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55 Mars counts the Sun, Moon and Jupiter as friends and Jupiter counts the Sun, Moon and Mars. Each names the other. Vashya is full because the engine puts both signs in one group. Varna, which depends on entry order for many pairs, is 1 either way here because both signs carry the same value in the engine's table (built from the sign classifications of BPHS Ch. 4). Varna is the koota's technical name only.
Bhakoot and the 5/9 trine
Counted inclusively, Pisces is the 5th sign from Scorpio and Scorpio the 9th from Pisces. The engine scored that 7 until October 2026; its header records that two published references ([A] and [B]) agree that 5/9 belongs with 2/12 and 6/8 as a zero-scoring Bhakoot distance, and it changed accordingly. No book in this library contains the rule, and descriptions elsewhere vary; some practitioners read a trine between the Moons favourably. Bhakoot dosha explains the term.
The kootas the nakshatras decide
Tara is generous here: 3 in 73 pairings, 1.5 in only 8. Yoni is 2 almost everywhere. The one exception is the Tiger of Vishakha meeting the Cow of Uttara Bhadrapada, an enemy pair in the engine's table, which gives 0 in 4 pairings.
Nadi pairs each Scorpio star with exactly one Pisces star that shares its Nadi: Vishakha and Revati (Antya), Anuradha and Uttara Bhadrapada (Madhya), Jyeshtha and Purva Bhadrapada (Aadi). Those combinations give 0 in 24 pairings; the other 57 keep the 8. Of the 24, the Anuradha-Uttara Bhadrapada case accounts for 16, because both stars have four padas in their signs.
Gana gives 3 in 45 pairings, 0 in 20 and 6 in 16. Purva and Uttara Bhadrapada are Manushya and give 3 against any Scorpio star. Revati is Deva: it matches Anuradha (6) and clashes with the Rakshasa stars Vishakha and Jyeshtha (0).
The range of totals
The engine's 81 totals run from 11.5 to 27 out of 36, median 22, in either order. The fixed sign contribution is 8. The fifteen-and-a-half-point spread is driven by Nadi and Gana, with Tara and Yoni making occasional small cuts.
Revati marks both ends. With Anuradha it gives the ceiling of 27: Deva and Deva (6), Madhya against Antya (8), Tara 3, Yoni 2. With the Scorpio pada of Vishakha it gives the floor of 11.5: shared Antya Nadi, Rakshasa against Deva, Tara 1.5. A Revati Moon, in other words, is neither a good nor a bad Pisces placement for this pair - its partner decides.
Uttara Bhadrapada, the other four-pada Pisces star, is steadier. As a Manushya star it always gives Gana 3, and it keeps Nadi against everything except Anuradha. A typical Bhadrapada pairing with Nadi intact and Tara full adds up to 24 - 8 from the signs, 3 from Gana, 8 from Nadi, 3 from Tara and 2 from Yoni - which is what the worked example below shows. The median of 22 sits a little lower because the same-Nadi pairings, 24 of them, pull the middle of the distribution down.
Jyeshtha, the last Scorpio star, has its own pattern. It is Rakshasa, so it clashes on Gana with Revati, and it is Aadi, so it shares a Nadi with the single Purva Bhadrapada pada. Against Uttara Bhadrapada it avoids both problems: Manushya gives Gana 3 and the Madhya Nadi keeps the 8. For a Jyeshtha Moon, then, the long middle star of Pisces is the most comfortable partner (24), and the single Purva Bhadrapada pada the least (14.5, against 21 with Revati).
Which case applies depends on the two stars, and so on birth times. The nakshatra calculator finds yours; Moon sign and nakshatra explains how a sign holds parts of three stars.
Worked example: Scorpio 1 degree with Pisces 1 degree
At 1 degree, the Scorpio Moon is in Vishakha and the Pisces Moon in Purva Bhadrapada - each sign's one-pada opening star. In either order ashtakoot() gives:
| Koota | Score | Out of | What decided it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | Sign: same value |
| Vashya | 2 | 2 | Sign: same group |
| Tara | 3 | 3 | Nakshatra: favourable both ways |
| Yoni | 2 | 4 | Nakshatra: Tiger and Lion |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | 5 | Sign: Mars and Jupiter, mutual friends |
| Gana | 3 | 6 | Nakshatra: Rakshasa and Manushya |
| Bhakoot | 0 | 7 | Sign: 5/9 |
| Nadi | 8 | 8 | Nakshatra: Antya and Aadi |
| Total | 24 | 36 |
At 24 the example is two points over the median. Every sign koota except Bhakoot is full, and the nakshatras give 16 of their possible 21. Tara can be checked by hand: Vishakha to Purva Bhadrapada counts 10 inclusively, remainder 1; back it counts 19, remainder 1. Neither is 3, 5 or 7, the engine's unfavourable remainders, so Tara is 3.
Under the engine's pre-October-2026 rule this same pairing would have collected Bhakoot's 7 as well. That is worth stating plainly, because it shows how much of a Guna Milan total can rest on a single rule choice that the classical books in this library do not settle.
What the classical texts say
BPHS supplies the sign descriptions and the friendship lists behind Graha Maitri. It contains no Ashtakoot rule, and neither do Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras or Advanced Predictive Astrology - a search for bhakoot, koota, kuta, nadi, gana and yoni finds none. Nothing in the corpus addresses Scorpio with Pisces as a match.
What a score does not tell you
A total that moved when a rule changed is a property of the scheme, not of two people. This app does not issue verdicts on marriage. Mars rules Scorpio, but Mangal dosha is a separate check on where Mars sits in each chart - see Mangal dosha: what it is and is not. Nadi dosha covers the same-Nadi rule, and the love compatibility calculator gives a non-Ashtakoot comparison.

- What is the Guna Milan score for a Scorpio Moon and a Pisces Moon?
- From 11.5 to 27 out of 36, median 22, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app. The order of entry does not change it.
- Two water signs in trine - why is Bhakoot 0?
- The engine scores 5/9 distances as 0, following two published references; it scored them 7 before October 2026. The classical books in this library contain no Bhakoot rule, and practice varies.
- Are Mars and Jupiter friends?
- Yes. In the engine's table from BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55 each lists the other as a friend, so Graha Maitri is 5.
- Does the order we are entered in matter?
- No. Both signs carry the same Varna value in the engine's table, so the one order-sensitive koota scores 1 either way, and every total is identical in both orders.
- Which star pairing scores highest?
- An Anuradha Moon with a Revati Moon, at 27: both Deva, different Nadi, Tara favourable both ways.
- How do we get our actual score?
- Enter both birth details in the match tool for all eight kootas from your real stars.
