In short
This app scores a Virgo Moon with a Scorpio Moon from 13.5 to 29.5 out of 36, median 22.5, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings when Virgo is entered first; Scorpio first lowers every total by one. Bhakoot keeps its full 7 at the 3/11 distance, while Graha Maitri gives just 1 because Mars treats Mercury as an enemy.
Virgo and Scorpio sit two signs apart, a spacing that the Bhakoot rule leaves alone. That is the good news for this pair in Ashtakoot matching. The less comfortable part is the relationship between their lords, Mercury and Mars, which the engine grades near the bottom of its scale. Between those two facts and a Nadi koota that is split almost down the middle, the totals for this pair spread across sixteen points - one of the wider ranges among the Virgo pages.
For the signs themselves see Virgo, Kanya rashi and Scorpio, Vrishchika rashi. The nakshatra matching guide is the hub for every Moon-sign pair, and the Kundli matching calculator scores two complete charts.
Kanya and Vrischik in BPHS
The two signs share one trait in BPHS Ch. 4 - both are strong in daytime - and differ on most others. Kanya (Sl. 13-14) is a biped "hill-resorter" of medium build, ruled by Budh. Vrischik, described just after Sl. 16.5, has "a slender physique", is a centipede sign that "resides in holes", resorts to water and land, is "very sharp (or passionate)", and is ruled by Mangal. Sl. 5-5.5 classes Kanya as windy and leaves Vrischik among the phlegmatic signs.
A Virgo Moon is in Uttara Phalguni (three padas), Hasta (four) or Chitra (two). A Scorpio Moon is in the last pada of Vishakha, or in Anuradha or Jyeshtha, four padas each. The 81 combinations of those quarters are the basis for everything below.
The kootas the two Moon signs fix
| Koota | Out of | Virgo first | Scorpio first | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | 0 | First class value compared with the second |
| Vashya | 2 | 1 | 1 | Adjacent Vashya groups in the engine's table |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | 1 | 1 | Mercury neutral to Mars; Mars hostile to Mercury |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 7 | 7 | Distance 3/11 is not a failing distance |
Graha Maitri: a one-sided enmity
The engine reads planetary friendship from BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55. In its lists Mars has one enemy, Mercury, while Mercury's only enemy is the Moon and Mars is merely neutral to it. A neutral-enemy pair scores 1 out of 5 on Graha Maitri. That value is itself a judgement call: the engine's header records that its web references disagree on the neutral-enemy cell (one gives 0.5, another 1) and that it kept its earlier score of 1 rather than choose between them.
Bhakoot: why 3/11 keeps the points
Counting inclusively, Scorpio is the 3rd sign from Virgo and Virgo is the 11th from Scorpio. The engine zeroes Bhakoot only at 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8, so this pair keeps all 7 points in every pairing. That one koota is worth more than Varna, Vashya and Graha Maitri together.
Varna depends on who is entered first
The engine's Varna koota compares the first person's class value with the second's and awards 1 only if the first is not lower. The two signs hold different values in its table, so the point appears with Virgo first and disappears with Scorpio first. The header lists this order dependence as unresolved. The name is the koota's technical term and does not describe either person.
What the nakshatras decide
Tara is the quiet koota here: it scores 1.5 in all 81 pairings, so it adds the same amount whichever stars are involved. Nadi is the opposite. Uttara Phalguni and Hasta are Aadi in the engine's table and Chitra is Madhya; on the Scorpio side Vishakha is Antya, Anuradha Madhya and Jyeshtha Aadi. An Aadi Virgo Moon meeting a Jyeshtha Moon, or Chitra meeting Anuradha, shares a Nadi and scores 0. The scratch run found that in 36 of the 81 pairings, against 45 with the full 8.
On Gana, Vishakha and Jyeshtha are Rakshasa and Anuradha is Deva, while Virgo's three stars are Manushya, Deva and Rakshasa. The result is an even spread: 0 in 28 pairings, 3 in 27, 6 in 26. Yoni is nearly fixed at 2. It drops to 0 only for Uttara Phalguni (the Cow) against Vishakha (the Tiger), 3 pairings, and rises to 4 only for Chitra against Vishakha, both Tigers, in 2.
The range of totals
With the Virgo Moon entered first, the engine's totals run from 13.5 to 29.5 out of 36, median 22.5. With Scorpio first they run from 12.5 to 28.5, median 21.5. The sign kootas supply a steady 10 (or 9); Tara a steady 1.5. Almost all of the sixteen-point spread is Nadi and Gana: a pairing that loses both sits at the floor, one that wins both reaches the high twenties.
That is why the sign pair, by itself, says so little here. Two Virgo-Scorpio couples can differ by more than a dozen points depending only on their stars. Your star comes from the nakshatra calculator, and Moon sign and nakshatra explains how a sign holds parts of three stars.
Worked example: Virgo 1 degree with Scorpio 1 degree
The first Moon at 1 degree of Virgo is in Uttara Phalguni; the second at 1 degree of Scorpio is in the single Scorpio pada of Vishakha. Entered in that order:
| Koota | Score | Out of | What decided it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | Sign: first value not lower |
| Vashya | 1 | 2 | Sign: adjacent groups |
| Tara | 1.5 | 3 | Nakshatra: good in one direction |
| Yoni | 0 | 4 | Nakshatra: Cow and Tiger, enemies |
| Graha Maitri | 1 | 5 | Sign: Mercury neutral, Mars hostile |
| Gana | 3 | 6 | Nakshatra: Manushya and Rakshasa |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 7 | Sign: 3/11 distance |
| Nadi | 8 | 8 | Nakshatra: Aadi and Antya |
| Total | 22.5 | 36 |
The Tara line shows the rule at work. The engine counts from one birth star to the other inclusively, both ways, and treats a count leaving a remainder of 3, 5 or 7 after division by 9 as unfavourable. Uttara Phalguni to Vishakha is a count of 5, which fails. Vishakha back to Uttara Phalguni is 24, remainder 6, which passes. One direction out of two gives 1.5. For this sign pair every pairing ends the same way - always exactly one good direction - which is why Tara never moves off 1.5.
Note also how narrow the Vishakha slice is. Only the last of its four padas lies in Scorpio, so a Moon in the first few degrees of Scorpio is in Vishakha and a Moon slightly later is in Anuradha. Crossing that line changes Gana (Rakshasa to Deva), Nadi (Antya to Madhya) and Yoni (Tiger to Deer) all at once, without changing the sign.
This example happens to land exactly on the median. It is also one of only three pairings where Yoni is 0, so a neighbouring pairing with the same Nadi and Gana would score two points more. The comparison shows how the eight kootas trade off: the full Bhakoot and Nadi make up for a weak Graha Maitri and a Yoni enmity, and the total ends in the low twenties.
What the classical texts say about this pairing
The library's classical books supply the raw materials the engine uses - the sign lords from BPHS Ch. 4 and the friendships from Ch. 3 Sl. 55 - but not the matching system itself. BPHS, Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras and Advanced Predictive Astrology contain no Ashtakoot table and say nothing about Virgo with Scorpio. The Bhakoot and Graha Maitri point values come from web references listed in the engine's header, adopted only where they agree.
What a score does not tell you
No total on this page is a judgement on two people. A Graha Maitri of 1 says that two planets are listed a certain way in a classical table; it does not say two minds will clash. Mars-related questions are a separate check, explained in Mangal dosha: what it is and is not, and a same-Nadi result is discussed in Nadi dosha. The love compatibility calculator offers a lighter comparison outside Ashtakoot.

- What is the Guna Milan score for a Virgo Moon and a Scorpio Moon?
- From 13.5 to 29.5 out of 36 with Virgo entered first (median 22.5), and 12.5 to 28.5 with Scorpio first (median 21.5), over all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app.
- Why is Graha Maitri only 1?
- In the natural relationships the engine takes from BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55, Mars counts Mercury as an enemy while Mercury is neutral towards Mars. The engine scores neutral-enemy as 1; its references disagree on that cell.
- Is Bhakoot dosha present for Virgo and Scorpio?
- No. The signs are 3 and 11 apart, and the engine only zeroes Bhakoot at 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8. Bhakoot is 7 in every pairing.
- Which koota makes the biggest difference for this pair?
- Nadi. It is 8 in 45 pairings and 0 in 36, depending on whether the two stars share a Nadi group. Gana is the next largest swing.
- Where do I get our actual score?
- Use the match tool with both birth details. The sign pair cannot settle Tara, Yoni, Gana or Nadi on its own.
