In short

Two Gemini Moons score between 23 and 32.5 out of 36 in this app's Ashtakoot engine, with a median of 28, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings. The four sign kootas are all full (15 of 15), so the whole spread comes from the nakshatras, and a shared Nadi, which happens in 53 of the 81 pairings, is the main thing that pulls the total down.

When both people have the Moon in Gemini, the sign half of Guna Milan is as settled as it can be: same sign, same lord, same everything that a sign can decide. What stays open is the nakshatra half. Gemini holds parts of three birth stars, and which of them each Moon sits in moves the total by almost ten points. This page walks through both halves using the numbers this app's engine actually produces.

Background on the sign is on the Gemini (Mithuna) rashi page. The nakshatra matching hub explains all eight kootas once and links every Moon-sign pair, and the Kundli matching calculator scores two actual birth charts rather than a sign pair.

Mithun as BPHS describes it

BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 9-9.5 pictures Mithun as a male and a female "holding a mace and lute", an airy, two-footed sign that lives in villages and is ruled by Budh (Mercury). Sl. 5-5.5 puts it with Tula and Kumbh as "mixed" in temperament. The image of a pair is built into the sign itself, which is a pleasing coincidence for a page about two Gemini Moons, but the text draws no matching conclusion from it, and neither does this page.

Gemini spans nine nakshatra quarters (padas): the last two of Mrigashira, all four of Ardra and the first three of Punarvasu. Each Gemini Moon falls in one of those nine, so two Gemini Moons can meet in 81 ways. Every range on this page is taken over those 81 pairings.

The kootas this sign pair fixes: a full 15 of 15

Four of the eight kootas read only the Moon sign. For a same-sign pair each of them lands on its maximum, and the engine confirms it in all 81 pairings:

KootaOut ofGemini with GeminiReason in the engine
Varna11Same class in VARNA_BY_SIGN, so the comparison passes in either order
Vashya22Same Vashya group
Graha Maitri55One lord, Mercury, on both sides
Bhakoot77Distance 1 both ways, not one of the 2/12, 5/9 or 6/8 distances
Sign kootas for two Gemini Moons (engine-facts.mjs gemini-and-gemini-moon-sign-compatibility, run 2026-10-14).

Graha Maitri (the koota) scores 5 whenever both Moon signs share a lord, before any friendship table is consulted, so Mercury meeting itself needs no further reasoning. Bhakoot (the koota) counts the distance between the two Moon signs; with both in Gemini the count is 1, and 1 is not among the distances the engine scores 0.

A practical note on order: Varna is the one koota in the engine that compares person A to person B rather than treating them symmetrically, and the header of compatibilityEngine.js lists that as an unresolved point. For two Gemini Moons it cannot bite, since both sit in the same class. The worked example below totals 28 whichever Moon is entered first, and the 81-pairing range is identical in both orders.

The kootas the nakshatras decide

With 15 points locked in, the remaining 21 come from Tara, Yoni, Gana and Nadi. For this pair they behave unusually, because the three Gemini stars have a particular mix of attributes in the engine's tables.

  • Nadi: 0 in 53 of the 81 pairings, 8 in the other 28. Ardra and Punarvasu are both Aadi nadi, and Mrigashira is Madhya, so two Gemini Moons share a Nadi more often than not. This is the koota that most separates a 23 from a 32.5.
  • Gana: only 6 or 3, never 0. Mrigashira and Punarvasu are Deva and Ardra is Manushya, so no Gemini quarter is Rakshasa. Ardra was listed as Rakshasa in this engine until October 2026; the header records the change to Manushya, which three references agree on.
  • Yoni: 4 in 29 pairings (both Moons in the same star, hence the same animal) and 2 otherwise. The three stars carry the Serpent, the Dog and the Cat, none of which the engine lists as enemies of one another, so Yoni never falls to 0 here.
  • Tara: 3 in 69 pairings and 1.5 in 12. Tara counts from one birth star to the other in both directions; a count that leaves 3, 5 or 7 after dividing by 9 is the unfavourable kind.

It helps to see which combinations produce the shared Nadi. A Moon in Ardra and a Moon in Punarvasu are both Aadi, so any pairing that draws from those seven quarters on both sides loses the 8 points, and so does any pairing where both Moons are in Mrigashira (both Madhya). Only a Mrigashira Moon meeting an Ardra or Punarvasu Moon keeps Nadi at 8. Because Mrigashira holds just two of Gemini's nine quarters, that favourable case is the minority, which is how the count reaches 53 of 81.

The range of totals for two Gemini Moons

Across the 81 pairings this app scores two Gemini Moons from 23 to 32.5 out of 36, with a median of 28. That floor is high: even the weakest pairing keeps the 15 sign points and enough nakshatra points to clear 23. The ceiling of 32.5 needs a different Nadi and a matching Gana together; because a different Nadi means two different stars, the full Yoni score that a shared star brings is not available at the same time.

Put plainly, the question for two Gemini Moons is less "do the signs agree?" (they do, completely) and more "are the two birth stars in the same Nadi?". That question needs a birth time, because the Moon crosses a whole nakshatra in roughly a day. The nakshatra calculator finds each person's star, and Moon sign and nakshatra explains how the two layers relate.

Worked example: Gemini 1 degree with Gemini 1 degree

Put both Moons at 1 degree of Gemini. That is the third quarter of Mrigashira for each of them, so the two people share one birth star exactly. ashtakoot() returns:

KootaScoreOut ofWhat decided it
Varna11Sign: same class
Vashya22Sign: same group
Tara33Nakshatra: a count of 1 both ways
Yoni44Nakshatra: Serpent with Serpent
Graha Maitri55Sign: Mercury with Mercury
Gana66Nakshatra: Deva with Deva
Bhakoot77Sign: distance 1
Nadi08Nakshatra: Madhya with Madhya
Total2836
ashtakoot() for Gemini 1 deg with Gemini 1 deg (engine-facts.mjs, run 2026-10-14). Reversing the entry order also gives 28.

This example shows the shape of the whole pair in one row. Seven of the eight kootas are at their maximum, and the eighth, Nadi, is at 0 because a shared birth star always means a shared Nadi. The 28 lands exactly on the median. A same-star match is often discussed separately in matching practice for that reason; Nadi dosha covers what the term means and which exceptions people cite.

What the texts say, and where they are silent

The engine draws two things from BPHS: the sign descriptions of Ch. 4 (behind its Varna table) and the natural friendships of Ch. 3 Sl. 55 (behind Graha Maitri). Neither matters much for a same-sign pair, because sameness short-circuits both. The scoring rules themselves are not in BPHS, nor in Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras, Daivajna Vallabha or Advanced Predictive Astrology; the only "Koota" in Saravali is a Nabhasa yoga, a different idea altogether. The Bhakoot distances and the Ardra gana assignment come from published web references named in the engine header, adopted only where they agree.

What a score does not tell you

A high sign-level score does not describe two people, and a shared Nadi does not condemn a match; both are outputs of one traditional rule set applied to two Moon positions. This app does not say whether anyone should marry. Many families also check Mars placement, which is a separate test, explained in Mangal dosha: what it is and is not. For a non-Ashtakoot comparison there is the love compatibility calculator.

Neighbouring pairs for comparison: Gemini and Cancer, where the 2/12 distance zeroes Bhakoot, and Gemini and Libra, another air pair. Cancer and Cancer is the next same-sign page.

What Guna Milan score do two Gemini Moons get?
Between 23 and 32.5 out of 36 in this app, with a median of 28, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings. The four sign kootas are always full at 15.
Why do two Gemini Moons often lose the Nadi points?
Two of the three Gemini stars, Ardra and Punarvasu, belong to the same Nadi, so two Gemini Moons share a Nadi in 53 of the 81 pairings. When they do, Nadi scores 0 of 8.
Can Gana be 0 for this pair?
Not in this engine. Mrigashira and Punarvasu are Deva and Ardra is Manushya, so the Deva-Rakshasa combination that scores 0 cannot occur between two Gemini Moons. Gana is 6 or 3.
Does it matter who is entered first?
No. Both Moons are in the same Varna class, so the one order-dependent koota passes either way, and the range is the same in both orders.
Is a same-sign match a good sign?
It means the sign half of the score is full; it does not say anything about the people. For a real reading enter both birth details in the match tool.
