In short
A Gemini Moon and a Pisces Moon score 16.5 to 27.5 out of 36 in this app, median 26, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings entered Gemini first. The 10/4 distance keeps Bhakoot at 7 but Jupiter counts Mercury an enemy, so the sign kootas give 9 of 15; Pisces has no Rakshasa star, so Gana never drops to 0. Pisces first is 1 lower.
Gemini and Pisces are both dual signs, square to one another, ruled by two grahas that sit awkwardly together in the friendship tables. In Guna Milan as this app scores it, the pair turns out better than that description sounds: the sign distance is a safe one, and the nakshatra kootas are unusually kind. The median lands near the top of the range. The details follow.
Each sign has its own page: Gemini, Mithuna rashi and Pisces, Meena rashi. For the eight kootas in general see the nakshatra matching guide, and for a real couple use the Kundli matching calculator.
Mithun and Meen in BPHS
By BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 5-5.5 the twelve signs run movable, fixed and dual in turn, which makes both Mithun and Meen dual signs. Both are also said to be strong at night. There the resemblance ends. Mithun is airy and biped, ruled by Budh, a village sign facing west (Sl. 9-9.5). Meen (Sl. 22-24) "resembles a pair of fish", is watery, Sattvic, footless, rules the north, rises with both head and back, and "denotes resoluteness"; it is ruled by Guru. Sl. 5-5.5 puts Mithun among the "mixed" signs and Meen among the phlegmatic.
A further classical link, which the engine does not use: BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 49-50 makes Kanya Budh's exaltation sign and the 7th from it his debilitation, so Meen is where Mercury is weakest. Graha Maitri does not look at dignity, only at which graha rules each Moon sign, so this fact affects no score on this page.
A Pisces Moon is in the last quarter of Purva Bhadrapada, in Uttara Bhadrapada or in Revati. A Gemini Moon is in Mrigashira, Ardra or Punarvasu. That makes 81 pairings.
The kootas this sign pair fixes: 9 of 15
| Koota | Out of | Gemini first | Pisces first | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | 0 | Different classes; the engine compares A with B |
| Vashya | 2 | 1 | 1 | Adjacent Vashya groups |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | 1 | 1 | Jupiter lists Mercury as an enemy; Mercury is neutral to Jupiter |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 7 | 7 | A 10/4 distance, which keeps its points |
| Sign total | 15 | 9 | 8 |
Bhakoot (the koota) counts Pisces as the 10th sign from Gemini and Gemini as the 4th from Pisces. The engine zeroes only 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8 - a list taken from two web references, since the classical books in this app's library do not contain the rule - so the full 7 points stand.
Graha Maitri (the koota) is the loss at the sign level. In the BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55 relationships the engine stores, Jupiter counts Mercury as an enemy and Mercury counts Jupiter as neutral. The engine gives neutral-enemy 1 point, a value the header says it kept because the references disagree (0.5 in one, 1 in another). Gemini with Sagittarius, Jupiter's other sign, gets the same 1.
Varna (the koota) is order-dependent. The engine gives 1 when the first Moon's class is at the same place as the second's or later in its list - true with Gemini first, false with Pisces first. Its header records the point as unresolved. Varna is a technical label for a sign classification here, not a description of anyone.
The kootas the nakshatras decide
- Gana is 6 in 40 pairings and 3 in 41, never 0. None of Pisces's three stars is Rakshasa (Purva and Uttara Bhadrapada are Manushya, Revati is Deva), and none of Gemini's is either, so the Deva-Rakshasa case cannot arise.
- Nadi is 8 in 66 and 0 in 15. Mrigashira shares Madhya with Uttara Bhadrapada, and Ardra and Punarvasu share Aadi with the single Pisces quarter of Purva Bhadrapada.
- Yoni is 2 in every pairing: Serpent, Dog and Cat against Lion, Cow and Elephant, with no shared animal and no enemy pair.
- Tara is 3 in 19 pairings and 1.5 in 62.
That combination is what makes the pair's distribution lopsided. With Gana guaranteed at least 3, Yoni fixed at 2 and Nadi intact in most pairings, the typical total sits close to the ceiling. The low end of the range is reached only in the 15 shared-Nadi pairings, which drop by 8 points at once.
There is a neat symmetry in which Gemini star gives full Gana. Mrigashira and Punarvasu are Deva, so they match Revati; Ardra is Manushya, so it matches the two Bhadrapadas. Every Gemini star therefore has a Pisces partner for full Gana, and no Gemini star has a Pisces partner for 0. Ardra's Manushya listing dates from October 2026 - before then the engine called Ardra Rakshasa, and Ardra pairings with the Bhadrapadas scored 3 rather than 6, and with Revati 0 rather than 3.
The range of totals
Gemini first, the 81 totals run from 16.5 to 27.5 out of 36, median 26. Pisces first, 15.5 to 26.5, median 25 - the whole range moved down one point by Varna. The gap between median and maximum is just 1.5 points, one of the tightest tops among Gemini's pairs: most combinations score in the mid-twenties.
Gemini with Sagittarius, the other Jupiter pair, has the same 9 at the sign level but a median of 21.5, because Sagittarius has a Rakshasa star (Mula) and shares Nadi with Gemini far more often. Again the difference between two sign pairs with identical sign kootas is entirely in the nakshatras.
To place an actual couple you need both stars and so both birth times. The nakshatra calculator finds them, and Moon sign and nakshatra explains the relationship.
Worked example: Gemini 1 degree with Pisces 1 degree
A Moon at 1 degree of Gemini is in Mrigashira; a Moon at 1 degree of Pisces is in the last quarter of Purva Bhadrapada. Gemini entered first:
| Koota | Score | Out of | What decided it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | Sign: Gemini entered first |
| Vashya | 1 | 2 | Sign: adjacent groups |
| Tara | 1.5 | 3 | Nakshatra: count 21 unfavourable, 8 favourable |
| Yoni | 2 | 4 | Nakshatra: Serpent and Lion |
| Graha Maitri | 1 | 5 | Sign: Mercury neutral, Jupiter hostile |
| Gana | 3 | 6 | Nakshatra: Deva with Manushya |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 7 | Sign: 10/4 |
| Nadi | 8 | 8 | Nakshatra: Madhya with Aadi |
| Total | 24.5 | 36 |
The example falls 1.5 points below the median. Gana at 3 is the reason: Mrigashira is Deva and Purva Bhadrapada Manushya. Had the Pisces Moon been later in the sign, in Revati, Gana would have been a full 6 and Nadi would still have held (Revati is Antya), lifting the total to the upper end of the range.
What the classical texts say
The engine uses BPHS for its Varna classes and its planetary friendships; here the friendship works against the pair, the sign classes are neutral. The Ashtakoot scoring is not found in BPHS, Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras, Daivajna Vallabha or Advanced Predictive Astrology, and none of those books says anything about Gemini and Pisces Moons as a match. This page therefore reports the engine and its named web sources only.
It is worth separating two ideas that are easy to blur. The square between Gemini and Pisces is an aspect-like relationship that other branches of astrology may weigh; Bhakoot does not treat 4/10 as a fault, and the engine follows that. Likewise, Mercury's weakness in Meen is a statement about Mercury's dignity in a birth chart, not about how a Gemini Moon and a Pisces Moon score against each other.
What a score does not tell you
A high median is not a recommendation, and a 16.5 is not a warning; both are arithmetic under one tradition's rules. This app does not say whether anyone should marry. Mars placement is a separate test - see Mangal dosha: what it is and is not - and Nadi dosha covers the 15 shared-Nadi pairings. The love compatibility calculator gives a lighter comparison. Related pairs: Gemini and Sagittarius, Gemini and Aquarius and Cancer and Pisces.
- What Guna Milan score do a Gemini Moon and a Pisces Moon get?
- 16.5 to 27.5 out of 36 in this app with Gemini entered first, median 26; 15.5 to 26.5 with Pisces first.
- Is Bhakoot a problem for Gemini and Pisces?
- No. The signs are 10 and 4 apart, which keeps the full 7 points. Only 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8 score 0 in this engine.
- Why is Graha Maitri only 1?
- Jupiter counts Mercury as an enemy in the BPHS relationships the engine uses, while Mercury counts Jupiter as neutral. That combination scores 1.
- Can Gana be 0 for this pair?
- No. Neither sign contains a Rakshasa star, so the Deva-Rakshasa combination that scores 0 never occurs. Gana is 6 or 3.
- How do we see our real score?
- Enter both births in the match tool. Note that swapping who is entered first moves the total by one point here.
