In short
A Gemini Moon and a Sagittarius Moon score from 13.5 to 27.5 out of 36 in this app, median 21.5, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings entered Gemini first. The signs are opposite, a 7/7 distance that keeps Bhakoot at 7, but Jupiter counts Mercury an enemy, so Graha Maitri is 1 and the sign kootas give 9 of 15; Sagittarius first is 1 lower.
Gemini and Sagittarius face each other across the zodiac. In Ashtakoot matching an opposition is a safe distance - it is not one of the counts that zero Bhakoot - so this pair starts with the heaviest sign koota in hand. The lords are another matter. What follows is the engine's own accounting, koota by koota.
Each sign has a page: Gemini, Mithuna rashi and Sagittarius, Dhanu rashi. The nakshatra matching hub explains the system, and the Kundli matching calculator gives the score for two real birth charts.
Mithun and Dhanu: two dual signs
BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 5-5.5 names the signs movable, fixed and dual in turn, which makes both Mithun and Dhanu dual signs. The chapter adds that both are strong at night, and that Dhanu is biped in its first half and quadruped in its second, while Mithun is wholly biped. They differ in element and lordship: Mithun is airy and ruled by Budh (Sl. 9-9.5); Dhanu is fiery, Sattvic, "A royal Rasi", tawny, and lorded by Guru (Sl. 17-18.5). Its royal description is why the engine places Sagittarius in the Kshatriya class of its Varna table.
A Sagittarius Moon falls in Mula, Purva Ashadha or the first quarter of Uttara Ashadha; a Gemini Moon in Mrigashira, Ardra or Punarvasu. Nine quarters a side give 81 pairings.
The kootas this sign pair fixes: 9 of 15
| Koota | Out of | Gemini first | Sagittarius first | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | 0 | Different classes; the engine compares A with B |
| Vashya | 2 | 1 | 1 | Adjacent Vashya groups |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | 1 | 1 | Jupiter lists Mercury as an enemy; Mercury is neutral to Jupiter |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 7 | 7 | Distance 7 both ways |
| Sign total | 15 | 9 | 8 |
Bhakoot (the koota) is the good news. Sagittarius is the 7th sign from Gemini and Gemini the 7th from Sagittarius. The engine's zero list - 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8, adopted from two web references because the library's classical books do not contain the rule - does not include 7/7, so the full 7 points stand in every pairing.
Graha Maitri (the koota) is the weak point. In the BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55 relationships the engine carries, Jupiter lists Mercury among its enemies, while Mercury regards Jupiter as neutral. Neutral-enemy scores 1 in this engine. The header notes that references disagree on this cell (0.5 in one, 1 in another), so the earlier value was kept. It is the same relationship that governs Gemini with Pisces, the other Jupiter sign.
Vashya (the koota) gives 1 for adjacent groups. Varna (the koota) depends on entry order: the engine scores 1 when the first Moon's class sits at the same place as the second's or later in its list, which is true for Gemini first and false for Sagittarius first. The header lists that asymmetry as unresolved. Varna here is a technical classification of signs, not of people.
The kootas the nakshatras decide
- Yoni takes all three values: 4 in 16 pairings, 2 in 63, 0 in 2. Ardra and Mula both carry the Dog, so an Ardra Moon meeting a Mula Moon shares the animal. The two zeros are Mrigashira (Serpent) meeting the single Sagittarius quarter of Uttara Ashadha (Mongoose), a pair the engine lists as enemies.
- Nadi is 0 in 36 and 8 in 45. Ardra and Punarvasu share the Aadi nadi with Mula; Mrigashira shares Madhya with Purva Ashadha.
- Gana is 6 in 20, 3 in 41, 0 in 20. Mula is Rakshasa, so Gemini's Deva stars lose Gana against it; Ardra (Manushya) scores full against the Manushya stars Purva and Uttara Ashadha.
- Tara is 1.5 in all 81 pairings - one direction of the count always lands on an unfavourable remainder and the other never does.
There is a tension built into this pair. The combination that gives the best Yoni - Ardra with Mula, both Dog - also shares the Aadi nadi, so the 4 Yoni points arrive with the loss of 8 Nadi points. Conversely, Mrigashira with Mula keeps Nadi but meets a Rakshasa star and loses Gana. Few combinations collect everything at once, which is why the ceiling stops at 27.5.
Ardra's place in the Gana table changed in October 2026, and this pair shows the effect clearly. When the engine counted Ardra as Rakshasa, an Ardra Moon scored full Gana against Mula (also Rakshasa) and 3 against the two Ashadhas. Now that Ardra is Manushya, following three references named in the engine header, the figures reverse: 3 against Mula and 6 against the Ashadhas. Anyone comparing a printout from before that change with the app today will see different Gana values for Ardra pairings.
The range of totals
Gemini first, the 81 totals run from 13.5 to 27.5 out of 36, median 21.5. Sagittarius first: 12.5 to 26.5, median 20.5. The sign kootas give a solid 9 regardless, and the nakshatras add between 4.5 and 18.5 on top. In practical terms, a couple with this sign pair could land anywhere from the low teens to the upper twenties without either Moon changing sign.
Within Gemini's list, the opposition does better than the 6/8 pair with Scorpio (6.5 to 22) and the 8/6 pair with Capricorn (10.5 to 24.5), entirely because Bhakoot survives here. It does less well than Gemini with Leo (19 to 30), where the lords are on better terms.
Birth times decide which star each Moon occupies. The nakshatra calculator finds them; Moon sign and nakshatra explains the layering of sign and star.
Worked example: Gemini 1 degree with Sagittarius 1 degree
One Moon at 1 degree of Gemini, in Mrigashira; the other at 1 degree of Sagittarius, in Mula. Gemini entered first:
| Koota | Score | Out of | What decided it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | Sign: Gemini entered first |
| Vashya | 1 | 2 | Sign: adjacent groups |
| Tara | 1.5 | 3 | Nakshatra: count 15 favourable, 14 unfavourable |
| Yoni | 2 | 4 | Nakshatra: Serpent and Dog |
| Graha Maitri | 1 | 5 | Sign: Mercury neutral, Jupiter hostile |
| Gana | 0 | 6 | Nakshatra: Deva with Rakshasa |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 7 | Sign: 7/7 |
| Nadi | 8 | 8 | Nakshatra: Madhya with Aadi |
| Total | 21.5 | 36 |
The total sits exactly on the median. The signs contribute 9 and the stars 12.5. Bhakoot and Nadi carry the score; Gana is the loss, because Mula is a Rakshasa star and Mrigashira a Deva one. If the Gemini Moon were in Ardra instead, Gana would rise to 3 and Yoni to 4, but Nadi would fall to 0 - an illustration of the trade-off described above.
What the classical texts say
The library's books give the sign descriptions (BPHS Ch. 4) and the planetary friendships (Ch. 3 Sl. 55) that feed the Varna and Graha Maitri tables. The Ashtakoot points are not in BPHS, Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras, Daivajna Vallabha or Advanced Predictive Astrology, and none of them discusses a Gemini Moon matched with a Sagittarius Moon. This page therefore reports the engine and its named sources, and stops there.
For readers who want to trace the Graha Maitri result to its root: BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55 explains natural friendship by counting the signs 2nd, 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th and 12th from a graha's moolatrikona, adding the lord of its exaltation sign, and treating other lords as enemies. The engine stores the resulting friend and enemy lists directly rather than deriving them at run time, and it is from those stored lists that Jupiter's view of Mercury comes.
What a score does not tell you
A Guna Milan total is the output of a rule set applied to two Moon positions; it is not a portrait of two people and not a recommendation. This app does not say whether anyone should marry. Many families also look at Mars; Mangal dosha: what it is and is not explains that check. Nadi dosha covers the shared-Nadi case. The love compatibility calculator gives a lighter view. Related pairs: Gemini and Scorpio, Gemini and Capricorn and Gemini and Pisces.
- What is the Guna Milan score for a Gemini Moon and a Sagittarius Moon?
- 13.5 to 27.5 out of 36 in this app with Gemini entered first (median 21.5), or 12.5 to 26.5 with Sagittarius first.
- Does the opposition cause Bhakoot dosha?
- No. A 7/7 distance keeps the full 7 points in this engine. Only 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8 score 0.
- Why is Graha Maitri only 1?
- In the BPHS natural relationships the engine uses, Jupiter counts Mercury as an enemy and Mercury counts Jupiter as neutral. The engine scores that combination 1 of 5.
- Why does swapping the two people change the total by one?
- The Varna koota compares the first Moon with the second. Gemini first scores 1; Sagittarius first scores 0.
- How do we find our own score?
- Enter both birth dates, times and places in the match tool; the nakshatras carry 21 of the 36 points.
