In short
A Gemini Moon and a Scorpio Moon score from 6.5 to 22 out of 36 in this app, median 14.5, over all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings with Gemini entered first. The 6/8 distance sets Bhakoot to 0 and Mars counts Mercury an enemy, so the sign kootas give only 3 of 15; with Scorpio entered first every total is 1 lower.
Gemini with Scorpio is one of the lower-scoring sign pairs in this app's Guna Milan engine, and it is worth being precise about why rather than letting the low numbers speak for themselves. Three separate rules each take points away, and one of them depends on nothing but the count of signs between the two Moons. None of them is a statement about two people.
The signs are described on Gemini, Mithuna rashi and Scorpio, Vrishchika rashi. The nakshatra matching hub covers all eight kootas, and the Kundli matching calculator scores two real charts.
Mithun and Vrischik in BPHS
BPHS Ch. 4 describes Vrischik in an unnumbered passage after Sl. 16.5: a slender, many-footed sign that "denotes Brahmins", lives in holes, faces north, is strong in daytime and is ruled by Mangal (Mars), with the note that it is "very sharp (or passionate)". Mithun (Sl. 9-9.5) is the airy, two-footed village sign of Budh, strong at night. Sl. 5-5.5 calls Mithun "mixed" and leaves Vrischik among the phlegmatic signs. The two have almost nothing in common in the chapter's terms, though the engine draws only Varna classes from it.
A Scorpio Moon is in the last quarter of Vishakha, in Anuradha or in Jyeshtha. A Gemini Moon is in Mrigashira, Ardra or Punarvasu. All 81 combinations are scored below.
The kootas this sign pair fixes: 3 of 15
| Koota | Out of | Gemini first | Scorpio first | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | 0 | Different classes; the engine compares A with B |
| Vashya | 2 | 1 | 1 | Adjacent Vashya groups |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | 1 | 1 | Mars lists Mercury as an enemy; Mercury is neutral to Mars |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 0 | 0 | Scorpio is 6th from Gemini; Gemini 8th from Scorpio |
| Sign total | 15 | 3 | 2 |
Bhakoot: the 6/8 count
Bhakoot (the koota) counts from one Moon sign to the other, inclusive. Gemini to Scorpio is 6; Scorpio back to Gemini is 8. The 6/8 relationship was a zero distance in this engine before the October 2026 revision and remains one now; two references ([A], [B] in the engine header) agree on it. No book in the app's library contains the rule. The 0 that results is the most common thing people mean by Bhakoot dosha.
Graha Maitri: Mercury and Mars
Graha Maitri (the koota) looks at how each lord regards the other in the BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55 relationships. Mars lists Mercury as an enemy; Mercury lists Mars as neither friend nor enemy. The engine scores neutral-enemy at 1. Its header says openly that the references disagree on this cell (one gives 0.5, another 1) and that the earlier value was kept. The difference is half a point, but it is a real source of variation between apps.
Varna and entry order
Varna (the koota) gives 1 when the first Moon's class is at the same position in the engine's list as the second's, or later, and 0 otherwise. Gemini entered first scores 1; Scorpio entered first scores 0. The engine records this asymmetry as an open point rather than picking a side. Varna is a sign classification here, nothing more.
The kootas the nakshatras decide
- Yoni is 0 in 32 of the 81 pairings and 2 in the other 49. Ardra's animal is the Dog, and Anuradha and Jyeshtha both carry the Deer; the engine treats Dog and Deer as enemies. Every Ardra Moon meeting either of those Scorpio stars loses the full 4.
- Nadi is 0 in 36 and 8 in 45. Ardra and Punarvasu share the Aadi nadi with Jyeshtha, and Mrigashira shares the Madhya nadi with Anuradha.
- Gana is 6 in 20, 3 in 36 and 0 in 25. The 0 cases are Gemini's Deva stars meeting Vishakha or Jyeshtha, both Rakshasa.
- Tara is 3 in 19 and 1.5 in 62.
The interactions are worth spelling out, because they decide which end of the range a couple reaches. An Ardra Moon can never lose Gana here (Ardra is Manushya in the current table) but loses Yoni against most of Scorpio, and loses Nadi against Jyeshtha. A Mrigashira or Punarvasu Moon keeps Yoni but is exposed to Gana 0 against Vishakha and Jyeshtha. Jyeshtha is the star that most often costs points: it can trigger Yoni, Nadi and Gana losses depending on which Gemini star it meets.
The range of totals
With Gemini entered first, the 81 totals run from 6.5 to 22 out of 36, median 14.5. With Scorpio first, 5.5 to 21, median 13.5. Because the sign kootas start at only 3, the nakshatras would have to be close to perfect for the total to reach the twenties, and the distribution of stars means that seldom happens.
For comparison within Gemini's list, the same engine gives Gemini with Sagittarius 13.5 to 27.5 and Gemini with Capricorn 10.5 to 24.5. The Scorpio pair sits lowest of the three mainly because it combines a zero Bhakoot with a Graha Maitri of just 1.
One more engine detail shapes these numbers. Until October 2026 the engine listed Ardra as a Rakshasa star; three references agreed it is Manushya, and the table was changed. Under the old listing an Ardra Moon would have scored full Gana against Vishakha and Jyeshtha and 0 against Anuradha. Under the new one it scores 3 against all three. For a sign pair where Ardra already carries the Yoni problem, that revision moved a fair share of pairings, and older printouts of this pair may not match what the app shows today.
For a real couple, the birth stars - and so the birth times - settle the matter. The nakshatra calculator gives each star; Moon sign and nakshatra explains why one Moon has both a sign and a star.
Worked example: Gemini 1 degree with Scorpio 1 degree
One Moon at 1 degree of Gemini (Mrigashira), the other at 1 degree of Scorpio (Vishakha), Gemini entered first:
| Koota | Score | Out of | What decided it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | Sign: Gemini entered first |
| Vashya | 1 | 2 | Sign: adjacent groups |
| Tara | 1.5 | 3 | Nakshatra: count 12 (unfavourable) one way, 17 (favourable) the other |
| Yoni | 2 | 4 | Nakshatra: Serpent and Tiger |
| Graha Maitri | 1 | 5 | Sign: Mercury neutral, Mars hostile |
| Gana | 0 | 6 | Nakshatra: Deva with Rakshasa |
| Bhakoot | 0 | 7 | Sign: 6/8 |
| Nadi | 8 | 8 | Nakshatra: Madhya with Antya |
| Total | 14.5 | 36 |
The example falls exactly on the median. The sign kootas supply 3 and the nakshatras 11.5, most of it from a different Nadi. Gana is the cost here: Mrigashira is Deva and Vishakha is Rakshasa. A Scorpio Moon a few degrees later, in Anuradha, would turn Gana to full but bring a shared Madhya nadi, so the total would not simply rise - the two kootas pull against each other for this star pair.
What the classical texts say
BPHS supplies the sign classes and the planetary friendships the engine relies on, and in this case both contribute to the low sign total. It does not supply Ashtakoot points, and neither does any other book in the library - Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras, Daivajna Vallabha, Advanced Predictive Astrology. None of them says anything about a Gemini Moon marrying a Scorpio Moon.
What a score does not tell you
A total in the single digits or low teens is a reading of a convention, built partly from rules the engine's own header calls disputed. It does not describe a relationship and it does not decide one; this app gives no verdict on whether two people should marry. Mars placement is a separate check, explained in Mangal dosha: what it is and is not. Nadi dosha covers the shared-Nadi result. The love compatibility calculator offers a different, lighter comparison. Neighbouring pairs: Gemini and Libra and Gemini and Sagittarius.
- What is the Guna Milan score for a Gemini Moon and a Scorpio Moon?
- In this app, 6.5 to 22 out of 36 with Gemini entered first (median 14.5), or 5.5 to 21 with Scorpio first.
- Why is Bhakoot 0 for this pair?
- Scorpio is the 6th sign from Gemini and Gemini the 8th from Scorpio. The engine scores 6/8, 2/12 and 5/9 distances as 0.
- Why is Yoni 0 in so many pairings?
- A Gemini Moon in Ardra has the Dog as its animal, and Scorpio's Anuradha and Jyeshtha have the Deer. The engine lists Dog and Deer as enemies, which accounts for 32 of the 81 pairings.
- Why does the result change when we swap names?
- Varna compares the first Moon with the second. Gemini first scores 1, Scorpio first scores 0, and nothing else changes.
- Does a low score mean we should not marry?
- This app does not give that verdict. The score is one traditional rule set applied to two Moons. For the full reading of your two charts use the match tool.
