In short
With Libra entered first, this app scores a Libra-Pisces pair from 6.5 to 19 out of 36, median 14.5, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings; Pisces first lowers each total by one. The signs fix just 3 points: Bhakoot is 0 at the 6/8 distance and Graha Maitri is 1 because Jupiter lists Venus as an enemy.
Libra and Pisces produce some of the lowest numbers on these pages, and it is worth being clear about why before anyone reads too much into them. In Guna Milan, two rules do most of the damage: the engine treats the 6/8 distance between the signs as a zero on Bhakoot, and it grades Venus and Jupiter low on Graha Maitri. Neither rule describes the people involved. Both are lines in a traditional scoring scheme, one of them taken from web references because the classical books here do not contain it.
For the signs see Libra, Tula rashi and Pisces, Meena rashi. The nakshatra matching guide explains each koota, and the Kundli matching calculator scores two real charts.
Tula and Meen, and Venus in Pisces
BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 15-16.5 gives Tula as a day-strong, head-rising biped of Rajo-Gun, ruled by Shukr (Venus). Sl. 22-24 gives Meen as "a pair of fish", watery, "strong at night", "predominant with Sattva-Gun", footless, and says it "denotes resoluteness"; its ruler is Guru (Jupiter). There is also a classical tie the engine does not use: Ch. 3 Sl. 49-50 lists Meen as the sign of Venus's exaltation. So Libra's lord is at its strongest in Pisces - a fact of graha dignity, not of matching.
A Libra Moon is in Chitra (two padas), Swati (four) or Vishakha (three). A Pisces Moon is in the last pada of Purva Bhadrapada, or in Uttara Bhadrapada or Revati, four padas each. All 81 combinations are scored below.
The kootas this sign pair fixes
| Koota | Out of | Libra first | Pisces first | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | 0 | First class value compared with the second |
| Vashya | 2 | 1 | 1 | Adjacent groups |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | 1 | 1 | Venus neutral to Jupiter; Jupiter hostile to Venus |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 0 | 0 | Pisces is 6th from Libra; Libra is 8th from Pisces |
Bhakoot is 0. Counted inclusively, Pisces is the 6th sign from Libra and Libra the 8th from Pisces. The engine zeroed 6/8 even before its October 2026 revision, and two agreeing web references ([A] and [B] in its header) support it; the books in this library contain no Bhakoot rule. The Bhakoot dosha page explains what the label does and does not mean.
Graha Maitri is 1. In the engine's lists from BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55, Jupiter's enemies are Mercury and Venus, while Venus lists only the Sun and Moon as enemies and is therefore neutral to Jupiter. Neutral against hostile scores 1. The engine kept that value because its references give different numbers for the cell (0.5 and 1).
Varna depends on order: the engine gives the point when the first-entered value is not lower than the second, so 1 with Libra first and 0 with Pisces first. That makes every total on this page a point lower when Pisces is entered first. The header calls the order dependence an open question. Varna is only the koota's technical name.
Add it up and the four sign kootas give 3 of a possible 15 with Libra first, or 2 with Pisces first. Whatever the stars do, the pair starts twelve or thirteen points down.
The kootas the nakshatras decide
Nadi is 8 in 45 pairings and 0 in 36. Swati and Vishakha are Antya in the engine's table and so is Revati, so any Swati or Vishakha Moon meeting a Revati Moon loses the 8. Chitra and Uttara Bhadrapada, both Madhya, are the other same-Nadi combination. Purva Bhadrapada, which is Aadi, never shares a Nadi with a Libra star.
Yoni has one enemy pair: Chitra and Vishakha are the Tiger, Uttara Bhadrapada is the Cow, and the engine lists Cow and Tiger as natural enemies - 20 pairings score 0. The rest score 2. Gana gives 3 in 45 pairings, 0 in 20 (a Rakshasa Libra star against Revati, which is Deva) and 6 in 16 (Swati and Revati, both Deva). Tara gives 1.5 in 62 and 3 in 19.
The range of totals
With Libra first, the engine's 81 totals run from 6.5 to 19 out of 36, median 14.5. With Pisces first: 5.5 to 18, median 13.5. These are low numbers, and the reason is almost entirely the fixed 3. Even a pairing that collects every available nakshatra point cannot pass 19.
The floor of 6.5 is a Vishakha Moon with a Revati Moon: they share the Antya Nadi (0), cross Rakshasa and Deva on Gana (0), score 2 on Yoni (Tiger and Elephant) and 1.5 on Tara. The ceiling of 19 is, for example, a Swati Moon with a Purva Bhadrapada Moon: different Nadi (8), Deva with Manushya (3), Buffalo with Lion (2), Tara 3.
Revati is the star that splits the outcomes most sharply. Against a Swati Moon it gives a full Gana of 6 but loses Nadi; against Chitra it keeps Nadi but loses Gana; against Vishakha it loses both. Uttara Bhadrapada, the other four-pada Pisces star, is Madhya and Manushya: it keeps Nadi with Swati and Vishakha but loses Yoni to the Tiger stars.
Knowing which star applies needs a birth time; the nakshatra calculator finds it. Moon sign and nakshatra explains why star and sign are separate inputs.
Worked example: Libra 1 degree with Pisces 1 degree
At 1 degree, the Libra Moon is in Chitra and the Pisces Moon in the Pisces pada of Purva Bhadrapada. Libra entered first:
| Koota | Score | Out of | What decided it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | Sign: first value not lower |
| Vashya | 1 | 2 | Sign: adjacent groups |
| Tara | 1.5 | 3 | Nakshatra: one direction favourable |
| Yoni | 2 | 4 | Nakshatra: Tiger and Lion |
| Graha Maitri | 1 | 5 | Sign: Venus neutral, Jupiter hostile |
| Gana | 3 | 6 | Nakshatra: Rakshasa and Manushya |
| Bhakoot | 0 | 7 | Sign: 6/8 |
| Nadi | 8 | 8 | Nakshatra: Madhya and Aadi |
| Total | 17.5 | 36 |
The example sits three points above the median and only a point and a half below the ceiling. Nadi is full, Yoni and Gana are middling, and the only gap the stars could close is on Tara. The engine counts from one star to the other inclusively, both ways, and treats a remainder of 3, 5 or 7 after dividing by 9 as unfavourable. Chitra to Purva Bhadrapada counts 12, remainder 3, which fails; back from Purva Bhadrapada to Chitra counts 17, remainder 8, which passes. One good direction gives 1.5.
The rest of the shortfall - twelve points on Bhakoot, Graha Maitri and Vashya - is on the sign side, and no choice of birth stars within these signs can recover it. That is the clearest sense in which a sign pair "fixes" part of a score: for Libra and Pisces it fixes most of what is missing, while the stars only decide how much of the remaining 21 points is collected.
What the classical texts say
The corpus provides the sign descriptions, the dignity of Venus in Meen, and the friendships the engine uses for Graha Maitri. It has no Ashtakoot system: BPHS, Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras and Advanced Predictive Astrology were searched for bhakoot, koota, kuta, nadi, gana and yoni, and no matching rule appears. Nothing in them comments on a Libra Moon with a Pisces Moon.
What a score does not tell you
A total in the teens is a statement about how a scoring scheme treats two Moon signs, and most of it was decided before either person's star was known. It is not a measure of two people, and this app does not tell anyone whether to marry. Mars placement is a separate traditional check, covered in Mangal dosha: what it is and is not. Nadi dosha explains the same-Nadi rule; the love compatibility calculator offers a comparison outside Ashtakoot.

- What is the Guna Milan score for a Libra Moon and a Pisces Moon?
- From 6.5 to 19 out of 36 with Libra entered first (median 14.5), and 5.5 to 18 with Pisces first (median 13.5), across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app.
- Why is the score so low?
- The four sign kootas give only 3 of 15: Bhakoot is 0 at the 6/8 distance, Graha Maitri is 1, and Vashya is 1. The nakshatras can add at most 16 more for this pair.
- Does Venus being exalted in Pisces help?
- Not in this engine. BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 49-50 gives Meen as Venus's exaltation, but Graha Maitri reads only the natural friendship of the two sign lords.
- Does the order of entry matter?
- Yes, by one point, through the Varna koota. The engine records this as unresolved.
- Is a low score a reason not to marry?
- This app does not give that verdict. A score describes two Moon positions under one rule set. For your real kootas use the match tool.
