In short

With Sagittarius entered first, this app scores a Sagittarius-Pisces pair from 20 to 31 out of 36, median 28, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings; Pisces first lowers each total by one. Jupiter rules both signs, so Graha Maitri is full, and the 4/10 distance keeps Bhakoot at 7; only Vashya, at 0.5, is weak on the sign side.

Sagittarius and Pisces are the two signs of Jupiter. That single fact settles Graha Maitri in Guna Milan: with the same lord on both sides, the koota is full. Add a 4/10 distance that Bhakoot does not penalise and the sign half of the score is strong, with only Vashya holding back. The nakshatra half is decent too, so this pair carries one of the higher floors among cross-sign pairings - every one of its 81 pairings scores at least 20 with Sagittarius entered first.

Sign pages: Sagittarius, Dhanu rashi and Pisces, Meena rashi. The nakshatra matching guide explains the kootas, and the Kundli matching calculator scores two real charts.

Dhanu and Meen: two signs of Guru

BPHS Ch. 4 gives both signs to Guru. Dhanu (Sl. 17-18.5) "is lorded by Guru", Sattvic, fiery, strong at night, "A royal Rasi"; Meen (Sl. 22-24) "is ruled by Guru", watery, "predominant with Sattva-Gun", strong at night, and "denotes resoluteness". The text makes them alike in quality and in time of strength, and both are dual signs under Sl. 5-5.5. It separates them by element and by humour: Dhanu bilious, Meen phlegmatic.

A Sagittarius Moon is in Mula (four padas), Purva Ashadha (four) or the first pada of Uttara Ashadha. A Pisces Moon is in the last pada of Purva Bhadrapada, or in Uttara Bhadrapada or Revati, four padas each.

Graha Maitri compares the two sign lords and gives 5 when they are the same graha, as here. This is one of only a handful of cross-sign pairs with a shared lord. Bhakoot counts Pisces as the 4th sign from Sagittarius and Sagittarius as the 10th from Pisces; the engine zeroes only 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8, a rule from two agreeing web references rather than from the library's books, so the full 7 stands.

Vashya is the engine's lowest value, 0.5, because the signs sit two groups apart in its table. Varna gives its point only when the first-entered class value is not lower than the second - true with Sagittarius first, false with Pisces first - so every total moves by one with the order. The engine's header flags this as unresolved. Varna is the koota's technical name only.

The kootas the nakshatras decide

Yoni is 2 in all 81 pairings - the Dog, Monkey and Mongoose of Sagittarius meet the Lion, Cow and Elephant of Pisces with no match and no enemy pair. Tara is 1.5 in 65 pairings and 3 in 16.

Nadi pairs each Sagittarius star with one Pisces star of the same Nadi: Mula and Purva Bhadrapada (Aadi), Purva Ashadha and Uttara Bhadrapada (Madhya), Uttara Ashadha and Revati (Antya). Those give 0 in 24 pairings - 16 of them the four-pada Purva Ashadha against the four-pada Uttara Bhadrapada. The other 57 keep the 8.

Gana gives 6 in 25 pairings, 3 in 40 and 0 in 16. The zeroes are Mula (Rakshasa) against Revati (Deva). The sixes are the Manushya stars meeting each other: either Ashadha with either Bhadrapada.

The range of totals

With Sagittarius first, the engine's 81 totals run from 20 to 31 out of 36, median 28. With Pisces first: 19 to 30, median 27. The sign kootas fix 13.5 (or 12.5) and Yoni 2; Tara, Gana and Nadi supply the rest.

The ceiling of 31 needs Gana 6 and Nadi 8 together, which means a Manushya star on each side with different Nadis: Purva Ashadha with Purva Bhadrapada, for instance, or Uttara Ashadha with Uttara Bhadrapada. The floor of 20 is the worked example below: Mula with Purva Bhadrapada, sharing the Aadi Nadi. The median of 28 is typified by Mula with Uttara Bhadrapada - Nadi kept, Gana 3, Tara 1.5.

There is a neat trade-off in the Purva Ashadha-Uttara Bhadrapada combination, one of the four largest blocks of pairings (16 each). The two stars share a Gana (Manushya, 6) but also a Nadi (Madhya, 0); with Tara at 1.5 they total 23. Mula Moons, meanwhile, have the opposite profile: they keep Nadi against Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati but cannot reach Gana 6 against any Pisces star.

Revati, the last Pisces star, is the one Deva star in play, and it behaves differently from the two Bhadrapadas. Against Mula it produces the only Gana zeroes for this pair (Deva against Rakshasa), though Nadi is kept because Mula is Aadi and Revati Antya. Against Purva Ashadha it gives Gana 3 and keeps Nadi as well. Against the single Uttara Ashadha pada, which is also Antya, it loses Nadi. So a Revati Moon is a strong partner for Purva Ashadha and a weaker one for the other two Sagittarius stars.

A useful way to read this pair, then, is that the sign side has done its work: 13.5 points are banked before any star is known, a high figure for two different signs, short of the full 15 only because of Vashya. The stars then decide whether a couple lands near 20 or near 31, and the biggest single factor is whether the two Moons share a Nadi.

Both stars matter, and both depend on birth times. The nakshatra calculator gives yours; Moon sign and nakshatra explains why matching needs the star as well as the sign.

Worked example: Sagittarius 1 degree with Pisces 1 degree

At 1 degree, the Sagittarius Moon is in Mula and the Pisces Moon in the Pisces pada of Purva Bhadrapada. Sagittarius entered first:

The standard example is the floor of the range, and the reason is entirely Nadi: Mula and Purva Bhadrapada are both Aadi, and the engine marks the result "traditionally flagged; worth discussing openly". Everything else is at a middling or full value.

On Tara the engine counts from one star to the other inclusively, both ways, and treats a remainder of 3, 5 or 7 after dividing by 9 as unfavourable. Mula to Purva Bhadrapada counts 7, which fails; back it counts 22, remainder 4, which passes - 1.5. Move the Pisces Moon a few degrees on into Uttara Bhadrapada and Nadi turns to 8; the total climbs from 20 to the median of 28.

What the classical texts say

BPHS gives both signs to Guru and describes each in Ch. 4; that is the basis of the engine's full Graha Maitri here. It does not contain Ashtakoot, and neither do Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras or Advanced Predictive Astrology, each searched for bhakoot, koota, kuta, nadi, gana and yoni. None of them discusses Sagittarius with Pisces as a pairing.

What a score does not tell you

Sharing a planetary lord is a fact about two signs, not about two people, and a high floor is not a forecast. This app does not issue verdicts on marriage. Mars placement is a separate traditional check, explained in Mangal dosha: what it is and is not. Nadi dosha explains the same-Nadi rule; the love compatibility calculator offers a lighter, non-Ashtakoot comparison.

What is the Guna Milan score for a Sagittarius Moon and a Pisces Moon?
From 20 to 31 out of 36 with Sagittarius entered first (median 28), and 19 to 30 with Pisces first (median 27), across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app.
Why is Graha Maitri full?
Jupiter rules both Sagittarius and Pisces, and the engine scores Graha Maitri 5 whenever the two Moon-sign lords are the same graha.
Which star pairings score highest?
Those with a Manushya star on each side and different Nadis, such as Purva Ashadha with Purva Bhadrapada or Uttara Ashadha with Uttara Bhadrapada. They reach 31 with Sagittarius entered first.
Is Bhakoot dosha present?
No. The signs are 4 and 10 apart; the engine zeroes Bhakoot only at 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8.
Does the order of entry matter?
Yes, by one point, through Varna: 1 with Sagittarius first, 0 with Pisces first. The engine records this as an open question.
How do we find our actual score?
Enter both birth details in the match tool. Whether the two stars share a Nadi is the biggest single factor for this pair.
