In short
A Taurus Moon with an Aquarius Moon scores between 18 and 30.5 out of 36 across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app, median 27.5, with Taurus entered first; Aquarius first adds one Varna point to each. Venus and Saturn are mutual friends and the signs are 10/4 apart, so Graha Maitri and Bhakoot are both full.
Among all the cross-sign pairs that include a Taurus Moon, Taurus with Aquarius has the highest median in this app's Ashtakoot engine: 27.5 out of 36. The reason is not mysterious. The two heaviest sign kootas, Bhakoot and Graha Maitri, are both full, and the nakshatras of the two signs rarely share a Nadi group. A high median is still only a description of how many star combinations score well under one rule set, and the page below takes it apart.
The signs are covered on Taurus, Vrishabha rashi and Aquarius, Kumbha rashi. The nakshatra matching hub explains all eight kootas and links every pair, and the Kundli matching calculator computes the full score from two sets of birth details.
Vrishabh and Kumbh in BPHS
BPHS Ch. 4 makes both signs fixed (Sl. 5-5.5) and gives them two lords who are friends. In most other respects they differ. Vrishabh (Sl. 8) is earthy, a quadruped strong at night, of the South, ruled by Shukr, associated with villages and businessmen. Kumbh (Sl. 21-21.5) is airy, a biped "man holding a pot", "very strong in daytime", resorting to deep water, of the West, ruled by Shani, and it "rules Sudras, the 4th Varna". The engine takes its Varna values from those last phrases: Vaishya for Vrishabh, Shudra for Kumbh.
A Taurus Moon falls in Krittika padas 2-4, Rohini or Mrigashira padas 1-2. An Aquarius Moon falls in Dhanishta padas 3-4, Shatabhisha or Purva Bhadrapada padas 1-3. That is 81 pairings.
The sign kootas: 13 of 15 points fixed
| Koota | Out of | Reads | Taurus first, Aquarius second | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | Sign | 0 (1 if Aquarius is first) | Vaishya and Shudra values compared in entry order |
| Vashya | 2 | Sign | 1 | Adjacent Vashya groups |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | Sign | 5 | Venus and Saturn are mutual friends |
| Bhakoot | 7 | Sign | 7 | 10/4 is not a penalised distance |
| Tara | 3 | Nakshatra | 1.5 or 3 | Depends on the two birth stars |
| Yoni | 4 | Nakshatra | 2 | The same in all 81 pairings |
| Gana | 6 | Nakshatra | 0, 3 or 6 | Depends on the two birth stars |
| Nadi | 8 | Nakshatra | 0 or 8 | Depends on the two birth stars |
The signs fix 13 of 15 points with Taurus first and 14 with Aquarius first; the one point they can never collect is the second Vashya point, since the two signs are in different groups. Across the 81 pairings the total runs from 18 to 30.5 out of 36 (median 27.5) in the first order and 19 to 31.5 (median 28.5) in the second. The median sits within three points of the ceiling, which means low results are the exception.
Graha Maitri and Bhakoot
In the engine's reading of BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55, Venus counts Mercury and Saturn as friends, and Saturn counts Mercury and Venus. The friendship is mutual, so Graha Maitri is the full 5. Aquarius is the 10th sign from Taurus counted inclusively and Taurus the 4th from Aquarius, which is not on the engine's 2/12, 5/9, 6/8 list, so Bhakoot is the full 7. The Bhakoot rule comes from two web references named in the engine's header; the books in this library do not contain it.
Varna and Vashya
The engine's Varna rule gives the point when the first entry's class value is at least the second's. Vaishya first against Shudra second fails; the reverse passes. The engine's header lists that asymmetry as unresolved, and for this pair it is the only sign-level point at stake. Varna names a koota, not a quality of anyone. Vashya places Aquarius in the group next to Taurus's, for 1 of 2.
Why the stars rarely pull this pair down
The Nadi groups do most of the explaining. Krittika and Rohini are Antya, and no Aquarius star is: Dhanishta is Madhya, Shatabhisha and Purva Bhadrapada Aadi. So a Krittika or Rohini Moon keeps Nadi's 8 against every Aquarius Moon. Only Mrigashira (Madhya) can clash, and only with Dhanishta, which has just two padas in Aquarius.
The Gana koota varies more. Dhanishta and Shatabhisha are Rakshasa in the engine's table and Purva Bhadrapada Manushya. Krittika (Rakshasa) scores 6 against the first two; Mrigashira (Deva) scores 0 against them. Yoni is 2 throughout: the Aquarius animals are Lions and a Horse, none matching or opposing the Taurus Sheep and Serpents. These are technical labels for stars.
At pada midpoints the engine's lowest pairing is a Taurus Moon in Mrigashira (about 25 degrees) with an Aquarius Moon in Dhanishta (about 1.5 degrees): Gana 0, Nadi 0, total 18. The median pairing, 27.5, is Mrigashira (about 28 degrees) with Purva Bhadrapada (about 21.5 degrees): Gana 3, Nadi 8. The only way into the bottom of the range is through Mrigashira. The top needs a matching Gana: Krittika with Dhanishta or Shatabhisha (both Rakshasa), or Rohini with Purva Bhadrapada (both Manushya). The engine's pada-midpoint run puts a Rohini Moon at about 21.5 degrees of Taurus with a Purva Bhadrapada Moon at about 28 degrees of Aquarius at 30.5, the same as the worked example below, by a different route.
As always, the exact star needs a birth time. The nakshatra calculator finds it, and Moon sign and nakshatra explains why it matters.
Worked example: Taurus 1 degree with Aquarius 1 degree
At 1 degree of Taurus the Moon is in Krittika, second pada. At 1 degree of Aquarius it is in Dhanishta, third pada. Entered Taurus first, this example reaches the pair's maximum:
| Koota | Score | Out of | What decided it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 0 | 1 | Sign: Vaishya first, Shudra second |
| Vashya | 1 | 2 | Sign: adjacent groups |
| Tara | 1.5 | 3 | Nakshatra: favourable one way |
| Yoni | 2 | 4 | Nakshatra: Sheep and Lion |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | 5 | Sign: Venus and Saturn, mutual friends |
| Gana | 6 | 6 | Nakshatra: both Rakshasa |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 7 | Sign: 10/4 distance |
| Nadi | 8 | 8 | Nakshatra: Antya and Madhya |
| Total | 30.5 | 36 |
Four rows are full, including all three of the heaviest kootas. The points left on the table are the Varna point (which the reverse order recovers), one Vashya point, half of Tara and half of Yoni. Note that the Gana 6 comes from two Rakshasa stars: the engine rewards a shared Gana regardless of which it is, so the Rakshasa label costs nothing here and carries no judgement of its own.
There is a lesson in the Dhanishta boundary, too. The first two padas of Dhanishta lie in Capricorn, and a Capricorn Moon is 9/5 from Taurus, a distance the engine scores 0 for Bhakoot. Four degrees of the Moon's motion on the second side is the difference between this maximum and a total six and a half points lower (the engine returns 24 for the same Krittika Moon against Dhanishta at 27 degrees of Capricorn), with nothing about the nakshatra itself changing. Varna and Vashya shift slightly as well, which is why the gap is not a clean seven.
A high score describes two Moon positions under one rule set. It is not a prediction and not a recommendation, and it says nothing about either person. Nadi dosha covers the rare Nadi 0 case, and Mangal dosha: what it is and is not the separate Mars check.
What the texts say
BPHS supplies the descriptions of Vrishabh and Kumbh and the Venus-Saturn friendship. It contains no Ashtakoot rules; neither do Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras or Advanced Predictive Astrology. None of these books discusses Taurus and Aquarius Moons as a match. The numbers above come from the engine and its documented rule set. The Bhakoot list in particular rests on web references, and the order-dependent Varna point rests on a comparison the engine itself marks as unsettled.

- What do Taurus and Aquarius Moons score in Guna Milan?
- From 18 to 30.5 out of 36 with Taurus entered first (median 27.5), and from 19 to 31.5 with Aquarius first (median 28.5), across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app.
- Why is this the highest-scoring Taurus cross-sign pair?
- Graha Maitri and Bhakoot are both full, giving 12 points from the sign lords and distance, and the Taurus and Aquarius stars rarely share a Nadi group.
- When is Nadi 0 for this pair?
- Only when a Mrigashira Moon in Taurus meets a Dhanishta Moon in Aquarius; both are Madhya.
- Why did swapping our names change the total?
- Varna compares the first entry with the second; Vaishya then Shudra scores 0, the reverse 1. The match tool shows every koota.
- Is a high score a guarantee?
- No. It is a traditional rule set applied to two Moon positions. This app gives no verdict on whether two people should marry.
