Taurus and Capricorn Moons score 9.5 to 25.5 out of 36 in this app's Ashtakoot engine, in either order, with a median of 14.5. Venus and Saturn are friends, but the 9/5 distance zeroes Bhakoot and Nadi often clashes. Worked example included.

In short

A Taurus Moon with a Capricorn Moon scores between 9.5 and 25.5 out of 36 across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app, median 14.5, whichever person is entered first. Venus and Saturn are mutual friends, giving a full 5 for Graha Maitri, but Bhakoot is 0 because Capricorn is the 9th sign from Taurus.

Taurus and Capricorn share an element, a humour and a friendly pair of lords. On paper they look like a natural match, and older versions of this app's Guna Milan engine would have scored them well. Since October 2026, though, the 5/9 distance between them costs all seven Bhakoot points, and the Capricorn nakshatras mostly fall into the same Nadi group as Krittika and Rohini. The median, 14.5, is the second lowest of any Taurus pair. This page explains each of those facts and where the rules come from.

The signs are covered on Taurus, Vrishabha rashi and Capricorn, Makara rashi. The nakshatra matching hub explains the eight kootas and links all 78 pairs; the Kundli matching calculator gives the real score for two charts.

Vrishabh and Makar in BPHS

BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 5-5.5 lists Vrishabh, Kanya and Makar together as the windy signs, and all three are earth. Vrishabh (Sl. 8) is a fixed quadruped of the South, ruled by Shukr, associated with villages and businessmen. Makar (Sl. 19-20) is movable, lorded by Shani (Saturn), Tamasic in the text's scheme, of the south, strong at night, rising with its back, a composite creature with a quadruped first half and a "footless" second half "moving in water". Both are southern, both strong at night, both rise with their backs. The text gives Makar no social class; the engine's header says it takes earth's value, which makes it Vaishya like Vrishabh.

A Taurus Moon falls in Krittika padas 2-4, Rohini or Mrigashira padas 1-2. A Capricorn Moon falls in Uttara Ashadha padas 2-4, Shravana or Dhanishta padas 1-2. That is 81 pairings.

The signs fix 6.5 of 15 points, the same in either order. The 81 pairings range from 9.5 to 25.5 out of 36 with a median of 14.5. The median sits five points above the floor and eleven below the ceiling: most pairings lose Nadi, and only a minority keep it.

Bhakoot: the trine counted as 9/5

Counting inclusively, Capricorn is the 9th sign from Taurus and Taurus the 5th from Capricorn. The engine's Bhakoot rule scores 5/9 as 0, along with 2/12 and 6/8. Its header explains that 5/9 scored 7 until October 2026 and was changed because two published web references agree on 0, and that no book in this library contains Bhakoot. Under the older rule every pairing here would have been 7 points higher, a range of 16.5 to 32.5. Practitioners do not all treat the trine alike, which the engine acknowledges. The 0 is usually called Bhakoot dosha.

Graha Maitri: Venus and Saturn

In the engine's reading of BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55, Venus's two friends are Mercury and Saturn, and Saturn's two friends are Mercury and Venus. Each names the other, so the Graha Maitri koota gives the full 5, a value all the engine's references share. The same friendship gives Taurus with Aquarius, Saturn's other sign, the same 5.

Varna and Vashya

With both signs at the Vaishya value in the engine's Varna table, the comparison passes in either order, so the order dependence the header flags does not apply. Varna is only the koota's name here. Vashya is weaker: the engine places Capricorn in a group of its own, far from the Taurus group, and scores 0.5.

What the nakshatras add: the Nadi problem

The Nadi groups explain the low median. Uttara Ashadha and Shravana are Antya in the engine's table, and together they cover all but two padas of Capricorn. Krittika and Rohini on the Taurus side are Antya too. Any pairing of those four stars scores Nadi 0. Only Dhanishta (Madhya) escapes against Krittika and Rohini, and only Mrigashira (Madhya) escapes against Uttara Ashadha and Shravana.

The Gana koota adds variety: Uttara Ashadha is Manushya, Shravana Deva and Dhanishta Rakshasa, against Krittika Rakshasa, Rohini Manushya and Mrigashira Deva, so every value appears. Yoni can fall to 0: Shravana is a Monkey and Krittika a Sheep, a listed enemy pair. The labels are categories for stars only.

At pada midpoints the engine's lowest pairing is a Taurus Moon in Krittika (about 1.5 degrees) with a Capricorn Moon in Shravana (about 11.5 degrees), 9.5: Yoni, Gana and Nadi all 0. The highest is a Taurus Moon in Mrigashira (about 28 degrees) with a Capricorn Moon in Shravana (about 21.5 degrees), 25.5: Gana 6 for two Deva stars and Nadi 8. Shravana sits at both ends; the Taurus star decides which.

That is why the star, not the sign, settles a real result. The nakshatra calculator finds it; Moon sign and nakshatra explains the relationship.

Worked example: Taurus 1 degree with Capricorn 1 degree

At 1 degree of Taurus the Moon is in Krittika, second pada. At 1 degree of Capricorn it is in Uttara Ashadha, second pada. In either order:

Total14.536
ashtakoot() for Taurus 1 deg with Capricorn 1 deg (engine-facts.mjs, run 2026-10-14). The reverse order also gives 14.5.

The example lands exactly on the median, and it is a typical pairing for the pair: Graha Maitri and Tara full, Bhakoot and Nadi empty. Those two empty rows cost 15 points between them, and neither concerns the relationship between the sign lords, which is as good as the system allows. A reader who looked only at the planetary friendship would expect a much higher number.

The sign boundary at the far end of Capricorn shows how sharp the Bhakoot rule is. Run directly with the same Krittika Moon, a Capricorn Moon at 27 degrees, in Dhanishta, scores 24: Gana 6 and Nadi 8, but Bhakoot 0. Move the second Moon four degrees on, to 1 degree of Aquarius, still in Dhanishta, and the engine returns 30.5, because the pair is now 10/4 and keeps Bhakoot (Varna drops a point and Vashya gains half of one, a net half point the other way). A few hours of the Moon's motion changes the sign and is worth six and a half points.

A 14.5 describes two Moon positions under one rule set; it is not a verdict on two people, and this app offers no remedies. Nadi dosha explains the frequent Nadi 0 calmly, and Mangal dosha: what it is and is not covers the separate Mars check.

What the classical texts say

BPHS supplies the descriptions of Vrishabh and Makar and the friendship of Venus and Saturn. It contains no Ashtakoot rules, and neither do Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras or Advanced Predictive Astrology. None of these books discusses Taurus and Capricorn Moons as a match. The 5/9 Bhakoot rule that does most of the damage here comes from the web references the engine names.

What do Taurus and Capricorn Moons score in Guna Milan?
From 9.5 to 25.5 out of 36, median 14.5, across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app. The order of entry makes no difference.
Why is the median low when Venus and Saturn are friends?
Graha Maitri is full, but Bhakoot is 0 at the 9/5 distance, and most star combinations share the Antya Nadi group, losing 8 more.
Was this pair scored differently before?
Yes. Until October 2026 the engine scored 5/9 Bhakoot as 7, so every pairing would have been 7 points higher. The change follows two web references it names.
Which star combinations keep Nadi?
Krittika or Rohini with Dhanishta, and Mrigashira with Uttara Ashadha or Shravana. The match tool shows which applies to you.
Does a low score settle the question?
No. It is one traditional rule set applied to two Moon positions. This app does not decide whether two people should marry.
