Taurus and Libra Moons score 9.5 to 25 out of 36 in this app's Ashtakoot engine with Taurus first (10.5 to 26 with Libra first), with a low median of 12.5. Both signs belong to Venus, but they are 6/8 apart, and Nadi often clashes. Worked example included.

In short

A Taurus Moon with a Libra Moon scores between 9.5 and 25 out of 36 across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app, with a median of only 12.5, when Taurus is entered first; Libra first adds one Varna point to each. Venus rules both signs, so Graha Maitri is full, but the 6/8 distance zeroes Bhakoot and most pairings lose Nadi.

Taurus and Libra are both ruled by Venus, which might suggest an easy match. Guna Milan as this app scores it says otherwise, at least at the median. The pair has the lowest median of any Taurus pair in the engine, 12.5 out of 36, and the reason is not the shared lord at all. It is a sign distance that costs the full Bhakoot and a set of nakshatras that mostly fall into the same Nadi groups. Yet the range runs up to 25, and the worked example below sits near the top of it. The spread is the real story.

See Taurus, Vrishabha rashi and Libra, Tula rashi for the signs, the nakshatra matching hub for all eight kootas and the other pairs, and the Kundli matching calculator for a real score.

One lord, two very different signs

BPHS Ch. 4 describes Venus's two signs almost as opposites. Vrishabh (Sl. 8) is earthy, fixed, a quadruped strong at night, of the South, rising with its back, and "represents villages and businessmen". Tula (Sl. 15-16.5) rises with its head, is strong in daytime, "relates to the western direction", is a biped, movable, and "represents Sudras, or the 4th Varna". Ch. 3 Sl. 49-50 adds that the Moon is exalted in Vrishabh, while Tula is where Saturn is exalted and the Sun debilitated. None of those dignities is used by the koota arithmetic, but the descriptions do supply the engine's Varna values.

A Taurus Moon falls in Krittika padas 2-4, Rohini or Mrigashira padas 1-2. A Libra Moon falls in Chitra padas 3-4, Swati or Vishakha padas 1-3. Nine against nine makes 81 pairings.

The signs give 6 of 15 with Taurus first and 7 with Libra first. Across the 81 pairings the total runs from 9.5 to 25 out of 36 (median 12.5) in the first order and from 10.5 to 26 (median 13.5) in the second. The median sits just three points above the floor and twelve and a half below the ceiling. That shape means most pairings cluster low, while a smaller group, the ones that keep Nadi, score far higher.

Graha Maitri: the same lord

With Venus ruling both Moon signs, the engine's Graha Maitri function returns the full 5 without consulting the friendship lists. This is the one sign koota where the pair's shared lord helps.

Bhakoot: six and eight

Counting inclusively, Libra is the 6th sign from Taurus and Taurus the 8th from Libra. The engine scores a 6/8 pair 0 for Bhakoot, as it does 2/12 and 5/9. That list comes from two web references named in the engine's header; none of the books here contains a Bhakoot rule. Bhakoot dosha explains how the 0 is usually described.

The contrast with the next sign along is sharp. A Taurus Moon with a Scorpio Moon sits at 7/7, which keeps Bhakoot, and the engine gives that pair a median of 26 even though its lords, Venus and Mars, are only neutral to each other. Moving the second Moon one sign, from Libra to Scorpio, lowers Graha Maitri from 5 to 3 but raises Bhakoot from 0 to 7, and with the small Varna and Vashya shifts included, the sign half rises from 6 to 11.5 with Taurus entered first, before any star is considered. The Nadi and Gana pictures change as well, because Scorpio's stars group differently from Libra's. One sign's difference in the second Moon moves the median by more than thirteen points.

Varna and Vashya

BPHS gives Vrishabh businessmen and Tula "Sudras", and the engine's Varna table follows: Vaishya and Shudra. The point is awarded when the first entry's value is at least the second's, so Taurus first scores 0 and Libra first scores 1. The engine leaves that order effect unresolved. The term names a koota only. Vashya puts the two signs in neighbouring groups: 1 of 2.

Why the median is so low: the Nadi pattern

The Nadi groups explain this pair. On the Taurus side Krittika and Rohini are Antya and Mrigashira Madhya. On the Libra side Swati and Vishakha are Antya and Chitra Madhya. So Antya meets Antya whenever a Krittika or Rohini Moon pairs with a Swati or Vishakha Moon, and Madhya meets Madhya for Mrigashira with Chitra. Those combinations cover most of the sign's quarters on both sides, and every one of them loses 8.

The Gana koota then sorts the survivors. Chitra and Vishakha are Rakshasa in the engine's table and Swati Deva. Krittika (Rakshasa) with Chitra scores 6; with Swati, 0. Yoni is 2 throughout, since none of the Taurus animals (Sheep, Serpent) matches or opposes the Libra ones (Tiger, Buffalo). The labels belong to the stars, not to the people born under them.

At pada midpoints the engine's pairings show the shape plainly. The lowest, 9.5, is a Taurus Moon in Krittika (about 1.5 degrees) with a Libra Moon in Swati (about 8 degrees): Gana 0 and Nadi 0. The median pairing, 12.5, is Rohini with Swati: Gana 3, Nadi 0. The highest, 25, is Mrigashira (about 28 degrees) with Swati (about 18 degrees): Tara 3, Gana 6, Nadi 8. Swati appears at all three points; what changes is the Taurus star.

So the exact star is essential. The nakshatra calculator finds it from a birth time; Moon sign and nakshatra explains why.

Worked example: Taurus 1 degree with Libra 1 degree

At 1 degree of Taurus the Moon is in Krittika, second pada. At 1 degree of Libra it is in Chitra, third pada. This is one of the pairings that escapes the Nadi clash. Taurus entered first:

Total23.536
ashtakoot() for Taurus 1 deg with Libra 1 deg (engine-facts.mjs, run 2026-10-14). Libra first, Varna becomes 1 and the total 24.5.

The example scores eleven points above the median, almost entirely because Nadi and Gana are both full. It is a good warning against reading a sign-pair median as a personal forecast: the default figure for "Taurus with Libra" is low, but this specific pair of Moons is near the top of the range. A few degrees further into Libra, in Swati, the same Taurus Moon would have lost both Nadi and Gana.

Whatever the total, it describes two Moon positions under one rule set, not two people. Nadi dosha explains the frequent Nadi 0 calmly, and Mangal dosha: what it is and is not covers the separate Mars check.

What the classical texts say

BPHS describes Vrishabh and Tula and assigns both to Venus. It contains no Ashtakoot rules; nor do Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras or Advanced Predictive Astrology. None comments on Taurus and Libra Moons as a match. The scoring above is the engine's, with web sources named in its code for Bhakoot.

What do Taurus and Libra Moons score in Guna Milan?
From 9.5 to 25 out of 36 with Taurus entered first (median 12.5), and from 10.5 to 26 with Libra first (median 13.5), across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app.
Both signs are ruled by Venus. Why is the median low?
The shared lord gives a full Graha Maitri, but the 6/8 distance zeroes Bhakoot and most star combinations share a Nadi group, losing 8 more.
Which star combinations keep Nadi?
Krittika or Rohini with Chitra, and Mrigashira with Swati or Vishakha. Those are the pairings that reach the upper part of the range.
How do I see our exact score?
The match tool computes both nakshatras from birth details and shows every koota.
Does a low median mean this pairing should be avoided?
No. A median describes many possible star pairs, not any couple, and the score itself is a traditional rule set. This app gives no verdict on marriage.
