In short
A Taurus Moon with a Sagittarius Moon scores between 10.5 and 21.5 out of 36 across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app, median 18.5, with Taurus entered first; Sagittarius first lowers each pairing by one Varna point. Bhakoot is 0 at the 6/8 distance and Graha Maitri is 1, so the four sign kootas give only 4 of 15.
Of all the sign pairs with a Taurus Moon, Taurus with Sagittarius fixes the fewest points from the signs alone: 4 of 15. In Guna Milan terms it misses on the two heaviest sign kootas, Bhakoot and Graha Maitri, and scores full only on Vashya, where the two signs share a group. Its ceiling is accordingly modest, 21.5 out of 36. What that means, and does not mean, is the subject of this page.
For the signs, see Taurus, Vrishabha rashi and Sagittarius, Dhanu rashi. The nakshatra matching hub explains each koota and links all 78 pairs, and the Kundli matching calculator scores two real charts.
Vrishabh and Dhanu in BPHS
BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 8 makes Vrishabh an earthy, fixed quadruped of the South, ruled by Shukr, associated with villages and businessmen. Sl. 17-18.5 makes Dhanu a fiery, dual sign of the East, ruled by Guru (Jupiter), "A royal Rasi", "biped in first half" with a quadruped second half, adoring an arch. Sl. 5-5.5 sorts Vrishabh among the windy signs and Dhanu among the bilious. The quadruped half of Dhanu is the one point of contact the engine reflects: its Vashya table places Sagittarius in the same group as Taurus (and Aries).
A Taurus Moon falls in Krittika padas 2-4, Rohini or Mrigashira padas 1-2. A Sagittarius Moon falls in Mula, Purva Ashadha or Uttara Ashadha pada 1. Nine against nine gives 81 pairings.
Sign kootas and the score they fix
| Koota | Out of | Reads | Taurus first, Sagittarius second | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | Sign | 1 (0 if Sagittarius is first) | Vaishya and Kshatriya values compared in entry order |
| Vashya | 2 | Sign | 2 | Same Vashya group |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | Sign | 1 | Jupiter counts Venus an enemy; Venus is neutral to Jupiter |
| Bhakoot | 7 | Sign | 0 | Sagittarius 8th from Taurus, Taurus 6th from Sagittarius |
| Tara | 3 | Nakshatra | 1.5 or 3 | Depends on the two birth stars |
| Yoni | 4 | Nakshatra | 0 or 2 | Depends on the two birth stars |
| Gana | 6 | Nakshatra | 0, 3 or 6 | Depends on the two birth stars |
| Nadi | 8 | Nakshatra | 0 or 8 | Depends on the two birth stars |
With Taurus first the signs fix 4 points; with Sagittarius first, 3. Over the 81 pairings the total runs 10.5 to 21.5 out of 36 (median 18.5) in the first order and 9.5 to 20.5 (median 17.5) in the second. The median sits near the top of the range, so most pairings are close to the ceiling the sign half allows; the low results come from a smaller set that also loses Nadi.
Set beside Aries with Sagittarius, the pair's weak point becomes clear. Both pairs share the Vashya group and both lose Bhakoot, Aries at 9/5 and Taurus at 6/8. The difference is the lord: Mars and Jupiter are mutual friends and score 5, while Venus and Jupiter score 1. Those four points are most of the gap between Aries-Sagittarius's ceiling of 27 and this pair's 21.5; the rest is how the Sagittarius stars pair with Krittika, Rohini and Mrigashira rather than with Ashwini and Bharani.
Bhakoot: the 6/8 distance
Counting inclusively, Sagittarius is the 8th sign from Taurus and Taurus the 6th from Sagittarius. The engine's Bhakoot rule scores 0 for 6/8, 2/12 and 5/9. That rule comes from two web references named in the engine's header; no book in this library contains it. A 0 here is usually called Bhakoot dosha, and that page explains the term plainly.
Graha Maitri: Jupiter and Venus
BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55, as the engine lists it, gives Jupiter two natural enemies: Mercury and Venus. Venus lists Jupiter neither as friend nor enemy, so it is neutral. The Graha Maitri value for a neutral-enemy pair is disputed among the engine's references (one gives 0.5, another 1), and the engine keeps its earlier 1. The same Venus-Jupiter relationship gives Taurus with Pisces, Jupiter's other sign, the same 1.
Vashya and Varna
The engine's Vashya table puts Taurus, Aries and Sagittarius in one group, so this pair scores the full 2. Varna is order-dependent: Vrishabh is Vaishya and Dhanu, "A royal Rasi", Kshatriya, and with the engine's numbering Taurus first passes the comparison while Sagittarius first fails it. The header lists the asymmetry as an open item. Varna is used only as the koota's name.
What the nakshatras add
On the Sagittarius side the engine's Gana table makes Mula Rakshasa and both Ashadhas Manushya. On the Taurus side Krittika is Rakshasa, Rohini Manushya and Mrigashira Deva. Krittika with Mula, both Rakshasa, scores 6; Mrigashira with Mula scores 0. These are technical labels and not descriptions of people.
The Nadi groups run Aadi (Mula), Madhya (Purva Ashadha), Antya (Uttara Ashadha) on the Sagittarius side. Krittika and Rohini, both Antya, clash only with Uttara Ashadha's single pada in Sagittarius; Mrigashira, Madhya, clashes with Purva Ashadha. Yoni can also fall to 0: Krittika is a Sheep and Purva Ashadha a Monkey, a listed enemy pair.
At pada midpoints the engine's lowest pairing is a Taurus Moon in Mrigashira (about 25 degrees) with a Sagittarius Moon in Purva Ashadha (about 15 degrees), 10.5: Gana 3 for Deva against Manushya and Nadi 0 for two Madhya stars. The highest is a Taurus Moon in Rohini (about 21 degrees) with a Sagittarius Moon in Purva Ashadha (about 25 degrees), 21.5: Gana 6 for two Manushya stars and Nadi 8. Purva Ashadha sits at both ends; the Taurus star decides which.
The nakshatra calculator finds the exact star from a birth time, and Moon sign and nakshatra explains why it carries most of the score.
Worked example: Taurus 1 degree with Sagittarius 1 degree
At 1 degree of Taurus the Moon is in Krittika, second pada. At 1 degree of Sagittarius it is in Mula, first pada. Entered Taurus first:
| Koota | Score | Out of | What decided it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | Sign: Vaishya first, Kshatriya second |
| Vashya | 2 | 2 | Sign: same group |
| Tara | 1.5 | 3 | Nakshatra: favourable one way |
| Yoni | 2 | 4 | Nakshatra: Sheep and Dog |
| Graha Maitri | 1 | 5 | Sign: Venus neutral, Jupiter hostile |
| Gana | 6 | 6 | Nakshatra: both Rakshasa |
| Bhakoot | 0 | 7 | Sign: 6/8 distance |
| Nadi | 8 | 8 | Nakshatra: Antya and Aadi |
| Total | 21.5 | 36 |
This example reaches the pair's maximum. Gana, Nadi, Vashya and Varna are all full, and the only nakshatra points missing are half of Tara and half of Yoni. Even so, the total is 21.5, because the sign half has already given away 11 points through Bhakoot and Graha Maitri. That is the clearest way to read this pair: the stars can only lift it so far, however favourably they fall for the two people concerned.
Two of the rows in that table rest on contested values. The Graha Maitri 1 is the neutral-enemy figure the engine's references disagree on, and the Bhakoot 0 comes from web references rather than a book. Change either convention and this "maximum" would move, along with every other figure on the page.
A modest ceiling is a property of the rule set, not of two people, and this app gives no verdict on marriage and prescribes no remedies. Nadi dosha and Mangal dosha: what it is and is not cover the checks often raised alongside Guna Milan.
What the texts say
BPHS describes Vrishabh and Dhanu and supplies the Venus-Jupiter relationship. It contains no Ashtakoot rules, and neither do Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras or Advanced Predictive Astrology in this library. None of them treats Taurus and Sagittarius Moons as a marriage question. The scoring above belongs to the engine, which names its sources.

- What do Taurus and Sagittarius Moons score in Guna Milan?
- From 10.5 to 21.5 out of 36 with Taurus entered first (median 18.5), and from 9.5 to 20.5 with Sagittarius first (median 17.5), across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app.
- Why is the maximum only 21.5?
- The signs give only 4 of their 15 points: Bhakoot is 0 at the 6/8 distance and Graha Maitri is 1. Even full nakshatra kootas cannot make up that gap.
- Is Jupiter an enemy of Venus?
- In BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55 as the engine reads it, Jupiter lists Venus as an enemy while Venus is neutral to Jupiter. The engine scores that pair 1.
- Where can we see our actual koota scores?
- The match tool takes both birth details and shows all eight kootas.
- Does a low ceiling mean the match is unsuitable?
- This app does not say so. A Guna Milan total is a traditional rule set applied to two Moon positions, not a verdict on two people.
