Aries and Pisces Moons score 10 to 25.5 out of 36 in this app's Ashtakoot engine with Aries first (9 to 24.5 with Pisces first). Mars and Jupiter are friends, but adjacent signs lose Bhakoot. All eight kootas, with a worked example.

In short

An Aries Moon with a Pisces Moon scores between 10 and 25.5 out of 36 across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app, median 21, with Aries entered first; Pisces first lowers each pairing by one Varna point. Mars and Jupiter are mutual friends, giving a full 5 for Graha Maitri, but the signs are adjacent, a 12/2 pair, so Bhakoot is 0.

Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac and Aries the first, so they touch where the circle closes. That makes them neighbours in exactly the way Aries and Taurus are, and in Guna Milan neighbours lose the Bhakoot koota. Unlike Taurus, though, Pisces is ruled by Jupiter, Mars's friend, so the planetary-friendship koota comes out full. The result is a pair whose sign half is mixed and whose total is decided, as usual, by the two nakshatras on either side of the join.

See Aries, Mesha rashi and Pisces, Meena rashi for the signs, the nakshatra matching hub for the system as a whole, and the Kundli matching calculator to score two real birth charts.

Mesh and Meen at the ends of the zodiac

BPHS Ch. 4 Sl. 3 lists the twelve signs from Mesh to Meen, so these two bracket the list. Mesh (Sl. 6-7) is movable, fiery and bilious, a quadruped of the hills, ruled by Mangal. Meen (Sl. 22-24) "resembles a pair of fish", is watery, phlegmatic and Sattvic, footless, a "water-resorter" that "denotes resoluteness", rises with both head and back, and is ruled by Guru. Sl. 5-5.5 makes it a dual sign. Ch. 3 Sl. 49-50 gives Venus its exaltation in Meen, a dignity rule with no part in matching. Fire against water, hills against water, quadruped against footless: the text draws the two signs as near opposites, which the koota system then scores on its own terms.

One detail feeds the engine. BPHS leaves Meen out when it names social classes for the signs, and the engine's header says Meen takes its element's value, water, which the table makes Brahmin.

A Pisces Moon falls in Purva Bhadrapada pada 4, Uttara Bhadrapada (four padas) or Revati (four padas). Revati is the last of the 27 nakshatras and Ashwini the first, so the stars also meet at the join.

The signs fix 6.5 of 15 points with Aries first and 5.5 with Pisces first. Across the 81 pairings the total runs 10 to 25.5 out of 36 (median 21) in the first order and 9 to 24.5 (median 20) in the second. The range is wide, 15.5 points, because every nakshatra koota here can take its lowest value, including Yoni.

Bhakoot: adjacent across the join

Counting inclusively from Aries, Pisces is 12th; from Pisces, Aries is 2nd. The engine's Bhakoot rule gives 0 for 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8, so this pair loses all 7 in every pairing. The rule comes from two web references named in the engine's header; no book in this library contains it. A 2/12 Bhakoot is often called Bhakoot dosha; that page explains the term calmly.

Graha Maitri: friendly lords

BPHS Ch. 3 Sl. 55, as the engine lists it, makes Mars and Jupiter mutual friends; each counts the other among its three natural friends. The Graha Maitri koota gives that pairing the full 5, a value all the engine's references share. This is the same result Aries gets with Sagittarius, Jupiter's other sign, which is also a Bhakoot-0 pair, though at 9/5 rather than 12/2.

Varna and Vashya

The engine's Varna rule awards the point when the first entry's class value is at least the second's. Kshatriya (Aries) against Brahmin (Pisces, by element) passes; the other way it fails. The header lists the asymmetry as an open item. Varna is only the koota's name. The Vashya table groups Pisces with Cancer and Scorpio and Aries with Taurus and Sagittarius, two groups apart, so the score is 0.5.

What the nakshatras decide

All three of the Pisces stars carry a different Yoni animal in the engine's table: Purva Bhadrapada a Lion, Uttara Bhadrapada a Cow, Revati an Elephant. Bharani, on the Aries side, is also an Elephant, so Bharani with Revati scores 4. But the Lion is listed as the Elephant's enemy, so Bharani with Purva Bhadrapada scores 0. One Aries star can score both extremes of Yoni depending on which side of a few degrees the Pisces Moon falls.

For Gana, both Bhadrapadas are Manushya and Revati Deva. Ashwini (Deva) gets 6 with Revati and 3 with the others; Krittika (Rakshasa) gets 0 with Revati. For Nadi, the Pisces stars run Aadi, Madhya, Antya in the same order as Ashwini, Bharani, Krittika, so each Aries star shares its Nadi with exactly one Pisces star: Ashwini with Purva Bhadrapada, Bharani with Uttara Bhadrapada, Krittika with Revati. These labels are categories of the system, not traits of people.

Since a Moon near the join can be in Revati one hour and Ashwini a day later, a reliable birth time matters a great deal for this pair. The nakshatra calculator gives the star; Moon sign and nakshatra explains why it carries most of the score.

Worked example: Aries 1 degree with Pisces 1 degree

At 1 degree of Aries the Moon is in Ashwini. At 1 degree of Pisces it is in Purva Bhadrapada, fourth pada, the only part of that star inside Pisces. Entered Aries first:

Total1336
ashtakoot() for Aries 1 deg with Pisces 1 deg (engine-facts.mjs, run 2026-10-14). Pisces first, Varna becomes 0 and the total 12.

This pairing sits eight points below the median of 21. Two zeros account for 15 lost points: Bhakoot from the sign distance and Nadi from the shared Aadi group. Ashwini meets its own Nadi in exactly one Pisces star, and the example happens to land in it. Run directly against the same Ashwini Moon, a Pisces Moon at 10 degrees (Uttara Bhadrapada) scores 21, the median, purely by recovering Nadi; one at 25 degrees (Revati) scores 25.5, the pair's maximum, because Nadi, Gana and Tara are then all full. The sign rows are identical in all three cases. Within one Moon sign, a shift of about twenty-four degrees on the Pisces side covers most of the pair's range, from 13 up to its 25.5 ceiling.

Neither 13 nor 25.5 describes a relationship, and this app does not translate the number into advice or remedies. Nadi dosha explains the Nadi zero, and Mangal dosha: what it is and is not covers the separate Mars check.

What the classical texts say

BPHS gives the descriptions of Mesh and Meen and the Mars-Jupiter friendship. It contains no Ashtakoot rules, and neither do Saravali, the Bhrigu Sutras or Advanced Predictive Astrology; none of them discusses Aries and Pisces Moons as a match. Everything on this page about points is the engine's, with web sources named in its code where a book is silent.

Compare Aries and Taurus, the other neighbour; Aries and Sagittarius, the other Jupiter sign; and Pisces and Pisces. The love compatibility calculator offers a non-koota comparison.

What do Aries and Pisces Moons score in Guna Milan?
From 10 to 25.5 out of 36 with Aries entered first (median 21), and from 9 to 24.5 with Pisces first (median 20), across all 81 nakshatra-quarter pairings in this app.
Why is Bhakoot 0 for Aries and Pisces?
They are adjacent signs, a 12/2 pair, and the engine scores 2/12 as 0 whatever the nakshatras. The rule comes from web references the engine names.
Mars and Jupiter are friends. Does that offset it?
Partly. Graha Maitri gives the full 5, but Bhakoot is worth 7, so the sign half still totals only 6.5 or 5.5 of 15 depending on order.
Can Yoni be full for this pair?
Yes: Bharani and Revati are both Elephant and score 4. Bharani with Purva Bhadrapada scores 0. The match tool shows which applies to you.
Is a low Aries-Pisces score a reason for concern?
This app does not treat it as one. The score is a traditional rule set applied to two Moon positions, not a verdict on two people.
