The 1st house is the one house in a chart that is not really about a topic. The 2nd is about money and family, the 7th about partnership, the 10th about work. The 1st is about the person the rest of the chart belongs to. Its Sanskrit name, Tanu Bhava, means the house of the body, and its other name, Lagna, means the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon when you were born. Every other house number in your chart is counted from it. If the 1st house is wrong, all twelve are wrong.
This page sets out what the classical texts actually say about the 1st house, chapter by chapter, and how this app computes it. The main source is Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS), which gives the house a chapter of its own, with Saravali and the Bhrigu Sutras alongside. Where the texts are silent, this page is silent too. You can follow along with your own chart using the Lagna calculator or the full birth chart calculator.
What the Lagna is, physically
BPHS defines it in one line in Ch. 3 (Sl. 4-6): "The Rasi rising is known as Lagn," and the good and bad effects of a chart are worked out from the Lagna and from the grahas. The translator's note to that passage adds the astronomy: the Lagna is the sign rising in the east at the latitude of birth, and the apparent rising comes from the rotation of the earth, which makes every degree of the zodiac climb over the eastern horizon in turn.
That one fact explains why the 1st house is so sensitive to your birth details. The planets move slowly through the signs. The Lagna crosses all twelve signs in a single day. Two people born on the same date in the same city, a few hours apart, share almost every planetary position and can still have different rising signs, and so different houses for every planet. Two people born at the same instant in different places can differ too, because the horizon is local. This is why the birth-time-unknown guide treats the Ascendant as the first thing you lose when the time is missing.
Tanu Bhava, Lagna, Ascendant, 1st house
These four terms name the same thing in this app. BPHS Ch. 7 (Sl. 37-38) lists the twelve bhava names in order, starting with Tanu. "Lagna" strictly means the rising point; because this app uses whole-sign houses, the whole sign that contains that point is the 1st house.
What the 1st house signifies
BPHS Ch. 11 opens with the student asking what is to be deduced from each bhava, and Sl. 2 answers for the first: physique, appearance, intellect (the translator glosses this as the organ of intelligence), complexion, vigour, weakness, happiness, grief and innate nature are all to be read through the ascending sign. Notice that the list holds opposites. Vigour and weakness, happiness and grief: the house does not promise either one. It is the place you look to find out which.
BPHS returns to the house in Ch. 32 (Sl. 31-34), where it says Tanu Bhava denotes the soul, the self, and names a fixed significator (karaka) for each bhava in order. The karaka of the 1st is Surya, the Sun. That is the classical reason a reading of the self looks at three things together: the 1st house, its lord, and the Sun. The page on the Sun in Vedic astrology covers the third.
The Bhrigu Sutras give a longer list in their chapter on house significations: physical stature, colour, form and shape, constitution, health, vitality and vigour, natural dispositions and tendencies, personality and the struggle for life, honour, dignity, prosperity, general well-being, the head and the upper part of the face, virtues, the start in life, and an idea of the general structure of the life. The two sources agree on the core (body, vitality, temperament). Bhrigu adds honour and the start in life, which BPHS spreads over other houses.
Why this house outranks the others
BPHS Ch. 7 (Sl. 33-36) sorts the twelve houses into groups. The Kendras, or angles, are the Lagna, the 4th, the 7th and the 10th. The Konas, or trines, are the 5th and 9th. The 2nd, 5th, 8th and 11th are Panapharas (succedent), the 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12th are Apoklimas (cadent), the 6th, 8th and 12th are Dusthanas, and the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th are Upachayas.
Ch. 34 (Sl. 2-7) then explains what the groups do to a planet that owns them. Benefics owning Kendras do not give their benefic effects, malefics owning Kendras do not stay inauspicious, and the lord of a Kona gives auspicious results. Then comes the sentence that matters for this page: "The Lord of Lagn is specially auspicious, as Lagn is a Kendr, as well as a Kon." The 1st house is the only house that belongs to both groups. So whichever planet rules your rising sign works for the chart as a whole, even when that planet is a natural malefic such as Mars or Saturn.

How BPHS judges the 1st house (Ch. 12)
Chapter 12, "Effects of Tanu Bhava", is short: fifteen slokas. It is worth reading closely because nearly every later rule about the 1st house is a variation on it. It makes four kinds of statement.
The condition of the Lagna lord (Sl. 1-2)
The chapter begins with the lord, not the house. If the Lagna lord is joined with a malefic, or sits in the 6th, 8th or 12th, physical felicity is reduced. If the lord is in an angle or a trine, there is bodily comfort at all times. If the lord is debilitated, combust or in an enemy's sign, the text says there will be diseases. Then the counterweight: a benefic in an angle or trine from the Lagna (the 4th, 7th, 10th, 5th or 9th) is called a powerful remedy for everything related to health. "Remedy" here means a feature of the chart that offsets another feature. It is not something to be bought or performed.
Aspects and occupants (Sl. 3-4)
Sl. 3 says bodily health suffers if the Lagna or the Moon is aspected by or joined with a malefic while having no benefic aspect. The second half of that sentence is the important part: a malefic influence with a benefic one alongside it is a different case. Sl. 4 says a benefic in the Lagna gives a pleasing appearance and a malefic takes it away, and that the body is comfortable if the Lagna is aspected by or joined with a benefic.
Wider results (Sl. 5-7)
If the Lagna lord, Mercury, Jupiter or Venus is in an angle or a trine, BPHS describes the person as wealthy, intelligent and well regarded by those in authority. If the Lagna lord is in a movable sign and aspected by a benefic, it names fame, wealth and bodily comfort. If Mercury, Jupiter or Venus is in the Lagna with the Moon, or in the 4th, 7th or 10th from the Lagna, it speaks of royal fortune. Read in present-day terms, these slokas describe support and standing. They are not a forecast of kingship.
Read the Moon the same way (Sl. 11)
Sl. 11 is flagged "Important" in the translation: the effects that apply to the Lagna should be judged from the Moon as well. This is the textual basis for reading a chart twice, once from the rising sign and once from the Moon sign. It is also why this app keeps showing results when you have no birth time: the Moon sign is still available, and Parashara himself treats it as a second Lagna.
The body map (Sl. 12-15)
The last slokas tie the houses to parts of the body according to which third (decanate) of the sign is rising. With the first decanate rising, the houses from the 1st run head, eyes, ears, nose, temple, chin and face. With the second, neck, shoulder, arm, side, heart, stomach and navel. With the third, pelvis and downward to the foot. Sl. 15 adds that a limb tied to a malefic by occupation carries a scar and one tied to a benefic carries a mark such as a mole. These are identification rules from an older practice and this app does not compute them, though you can see which decanate your Ascendant falls in with the Drekkana (D3) calculator.
What this page leaves out of Ch. 12
Sl. 8-10 give rules for a birth with the cord coiled round a limb, for twins, and for an infant nursed by three women. They are birth-circumstance rules, not readings of a living person, and are named here without being repeated.
When any house prospers: the general rule
BPHS Ch. 11 closes (Sl. 14-16) with a test that applies to all twelve houses and is the plainest checklist for the 1st. A bhava prospers when it is joined or aspected by a benefic, and when its lord is in a youthful or alert state (the text uses the avastha names) or placed in the 10th. A bhava is harmed when it is not aspected by its own lord, when its lord is with a malefic or with the lord of the 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th or 12th, when its lord has lost a planetary war, or when the lord is in an aged, dead or sleeping state.
Two chapters earlier, among the features that offset early difficulty, Ch. 10 names two that involve this house. Sl. 3 says a single strong Jupiter in the Lagna wards off all the evils listed before it, and Sl. 4 says the Lagna lord alone can do the same if strongly placed in an angle. Combined with Ch. 12, the classical order of questions for the 1st house is clear:
- Where is the Lagna lord? An angle or trine is supportive; the 6th, 8th or 12th is the weaker case (Ch. 12 Sl. 1-2).
- What condition is the lord in? Exalted or in its own sign is strong; debilitated, combust or in an enemy sign is the weaker case (Ch. 12 Sl. 2).
- Who is with the lord? A malefic companion, or the lord of a difficult house, counts against it (Ch. 11 Sl. 14-16).
- What sits in the 1st house itself? A benefic or a malefic (Ch. 12 Sl. 4).
- What aspects the 1st house, and is there a benefic aspect to balance a malefic one (Ch. 12 Sl. 3)?
- Are there benefics in the angles and trines from the Lagna (Ch. 12 Sl. 1-2)?
- Repeat all of this from the Moon (Ch. 12 Sl. 11).
The Lagna lord in each of the twelve houses
BPHS Ch. 24 works through every house lord in every house. The first twelve slokas cover the lord of the 1st. The table paraphrases them. Several slokas carry clauses about the number of wives, other women, or the loss of a child; those are left out here, as they are everywhere in this app, and the rest is reported as written.
| Lagna lord in | BPHS Ch. 24 says | Sloka |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | Physical happiness and prowess; intelligent; fickle-minded | 1 |
| 2nd | Gainful, scholarly, happy, of good qualities, religious, honourable | 2 |
| 3rd | Valour "equal to a lion"; wealth of all kinds; honourable, intelligent, happy | 3 |
| 4th | Happiness from both parents; many siblings; virtuous and charming | 4 |
| 5th | Honourable, given to anger, dear to those in authority; happiness from children described as middling | 5 |
| 6th | If related to a malefic and without a benefic aspect: lacking physical happiness, troubled by opponents | 6 |
| 7th | If the lord is a benefic: wandering, want and dejection; or, if that graha is strong, the opposite, a ruler | 7 |
| 8th | An accomplished scholar, but sickly, given to much anger, and a gambler | 8 |
| 9th | Fortunate, dear to people, devout, skilful, eloquent; family and wealth | 9 |
| 10th | Happiness through the father, honour from authority, fame, and self-earned wealth "doubtlessly" | 10 |
| 11th | Always endowed with gains, good qualities and fame | 11 |
| 12th | If without benefic aspect or company: lacking physical happiness, unfruitful spending, much anger | 12 |
Three things in this list are easy to miss. First, the difficult placements are conditional in the text itself. The 6th-house sloka applies "if related to a malefic" and "if there is no benefic Drishti"; the 12th-house sloka applies when the lord is "devoid of benefic Drishti and/or Yuti". A Lagna lord in the 6th or 12th with Jupiter aspecting it is not the case those slokas describe. Second, the 7th-house sloka gives two opposite outcomes and makes strength the deciding factor. Third, the 8th-house sloka opens with "an accomplished scholar". Even the placement Ch. 12 treats as weakest for the body is given a real gift.
To find yours, open the birth chart, read the rising sign, take its lord from the table above, and see which house that planet occupies. The sibling pages for the houses most often involved are the 4th, the 5th, the 9th and the 10th on the supportive side, and the 6th, the 8th and the 12th on the difficult side.
Every other house lord placed in the Lagna
The reverse question is which house's lord sits in your 1st house. A planet in the Lagna brings the affairs of the houses it rules to the self. Ch. 24 gives one sloka for each.
| Lord of the | Placed in the 1st: BPHS Ch. 24 says | Sloka |
|---|---|---|
| 2nd | Endowed with wealth and children; at odds with the family; hard-hearted; does work for others | 13 |
| 3rd | Self-made wealth; devout; valorous; intelligent though without formal learning | 25 |
| 4th | Learning, virtues, ornaments, land, conveyances and happiness through the mother | 37 |
| 5th | Scholarly, happiness through children; but miserly and crooked | 49 |
| 6th | Sickly, yet famous, rich, honourable, adventurous and virtuous; at odds with their own people | 61 |
| 7th | Skilful but lacking courage; the text adds windy complaints | 73 |
| 8th | Lacking physical felicity; prone to wounds | 85 |
| 9th | Fortunate, honoured by authority, virtuous, charming, learned, honoured by the public | 97 |
| 10th | Scholarly, famous, a poet; ill health in childhood and happiness later; wealth that grows day by day | 109 |
| 11th | Genuine in disposition, rich, happy, even-sighted, eloquent, always endowed with gains | 121 |
| 12th | A spendthrift; weak constitution; the text adds phlegmatic complaints; short of wealth and learning | 133 |
The pattern follows the house groups. The lords of the trines and angles (the 4th, 9th and 10th especially) are described warmly when they come to the Lagna. The lords of the 8th and 12th are described as a drain on the body. The 6th lord is mixed: "sickly" and "famous, rich, honourable" stand in the same sloka. The same chapter pairs two of these in Ch. 48: when the 9th lord is in the Lagna and the Lagna lord is in the 9th, the periods of both are called extremely beneficial, and the same exchange with the 10th lord is linked with gaining authority (Sl. 14-17). More on those houses is in the 2nd house, the 3rd, the 7th and the 11th.
Planets in the 1st house
Saravali Ch. 30 states its purpose in its first sloka: the effects of planets in the bhavas are explained so that "physique etc." can be understood. Its 1st-house slokas are, accordingly, mostly about the body and temperament. They are blunt, and they should be read with BPHS Ch. 12 in mind: a planet's sign, its dignity and the aspects on it change the reading.
| Planet rising | Saravali Ch. 30 | Sloka | Read more |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sun | Prominent personality, honourable, courageous; also less hair, quick to anger, impatient, weak sight | 2 | Sun in the 1st |
| Moon | In Cancer, Taurus or Aries: liberal, attractive, well-off. In other signs the text is harsh and speaks of decline | 14 | Moon in the 1st |
| Mars | Adventurous, courageous, honourable, attractive; also cruel, fickle, with an injured physique | 26 | Mars in the 1st |
| Mercury | Flawless physique, intelligent, knows the right place and time, skilled in poetry and mathematics, a sweet speaker | 38 | Mercury in the 1st |
| Jupiter | Attractive, energetic, learned, courageous; "will act after assessing consequences" | 50 | Jupiter in the 1st |
| Venus | Beautiful eyes, face and physique; happy; timid | 62 | Venus in the 1st |
| Saturn | In exaltation or its own sign: status "equal to a king", heading a city or country. In other signs: a hard childhood and indolence | 74 | Saturn in the 1st |
Saravali itself shows that sign matters. The Moon sloka gives opposite readings for three signs and the other nine. The Saturn sloka turns entirely on whether Saturn is in its own or exaltation sign. The Sun sloka adds sign-specific notes on the eyes for Cancer, Aries and Leo Ascendants. This is the same principle BPHS states in Ch. 12: the occupant is judged by its condition. For the nodes, see Rahu in the 1st house and Ketu in the 1st house.
Two planets gain strength here
Saravali's passage on planetary strengths (Sl. 35) says Jupiter and Mercury have directional strength in the Ascendant, which it identifies with the east. Directional strength is one of the components of Shad Bala, which you can see for your own planets in the Shad Bala calculator. It fits the house: the two planets the texts link with intellect and judgement are strongest in the house BPHS links with intellect and innate nature.
Yogas that depend on the Lagna
- Panchmahapurusha Yogas. BPHS Ch. 75 Sl. 1: when Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus or Saturn is in its own or exaltation sign and in a Kendra to the Lagna, it forms Ruchaka, Bhadra, Hamsa, Malavya or Sasa Yoga. The 1st house is one of the four Kendras, so a planet rising in its own or exaltation sign qualifies.
- Chamar Yog. BPHS Ch. 36 Sl. 11-12: formed when the Lagna lord is exalted in a Kendra and aspected by Jupiter, or when two benefics are in the Lagna, 7th, 9th or 10th. The text links it with learning, eloquence and honour.
- Dhan Yoga (Wealth). BPHS Ch. 41, as this app codes it: the Lagna lord in its own sign in the 1st house, with a named pair or trio of planets either in the 1st or aspecting it. The engine checks each of the seven planet-specific versions.
- Bhrigu Sutras planet-by-house readings. The kundali view gives a 1st-house reading for each of the nine grahas, choosing the favourable or the testing wording from that planet's own dignity.
All of these are detected, when present, by the yoga calculator. If you are unsure what a detected yoga should mean in practice, read what a yoga in your chart means first.
Aspects on the 1st house
BPHS Ch. 26 (Sl. 2-5) gives the planetary aspects: every graha aspects the 7th place from itself fully, and Saturn, Jupiter and Mars have special full aspects on the 3rd and 10th, the 5th and 9th, and the 4th and 8th respectively. Counting backwards from the 1st house, that fixes exactly which positions can aspect your Lagna.
| Planet | Aspects the 1st house when it sits in the |
|---|---|
| Any planet | 7th house (the 7th-place aspect) |
| Mars | 7th, 10th (its 4th-place aspect) or 6th (its 8th-place aspect) |
| Jupiter | 7th, 9th (its 5th-place aspect) or 5th (its 9th-place aspect) |
| Saturn | 7th, 11th (its 3rd-place aspect) or 4th (its 10th-place aspect) |
How this app computes your 1st house
The engine does this in four steps, and each one is visible in the output of the Lagna calculator.
- It computes the tropical rising degree for your birth instant, latitude and longitude.
- It subtracts the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa to get the sidereal degree. The current offset is shown by the ayanamsa calculator.
- It reports the sign, the degree within the sign, the nakshatra and the pada of that point.
- It builds whole-sign houses: the rising sign is the whole 1st house, the next sign is the 2nd, and so on. Each planet's house is counted the same way.
Two limits are built in. First, the Ascendant is only computed when you supply a birth time; with a date alone the chart has no Ascendant and no house numbers, and the calculators that need them say so instead of guessing. Second, the place must resolve to real coordinates, because the horizon depends on latitude and longitude. The engine's methods and their accuracy limits are described on the methodology page.
Whole-sign houses have one effect you should know about. A planet at 2 degrees of your rising sign and a planet at 28 degrees are both in the 1st house, whatever the exact rising degree is. Apps that use a different house system can place the same planet in the 12th or the 2nd. Neither is an arithmetic mistake; they are different conventions. It is one of the reasons two apps can disagree about your chart, alongside the ayanamsa differences described in why apps disagree on your nakshatra.
The Lagna in the divisional charts
The rising degree is also divided to give an Ascendant for each divisional chart. In the Navamsa (D9) the engine flags the Ascendant as Vargottama when it falls in the same sign in both the birth chart and the Navamsa. BPHS Ch. 36 (Sl. 38-39) lists what the Lagna lord's divisional dignities add; for a Vargottama Lagna lord it names resistance to illness, and for higher counts of good divisions it names wealth, learning and honour. Because a Navamsa sign lasts only 3 degrees 20 minutes of the zodiac, the Navamsa Ascendant changes in a matter of minutes, so it is the first thing to become unreliable when a birth time is rounded. Navamsa, the second chart explains how to use it.
The app also computes the Arudha Lagna, a different point derived from the Lagna and its lord. The engine describes the distinction this way: the Lagna is where you actually are, and the Arudha Lagna is how your image and circumstances are perceived. They are not interchangeable, and the rules on this page apply to the Lagna.
Timing: when the 1st house becomes active
The classical timing tool is the dasha. BPHS Ch. 48 (Sl. 2-4) gives a one-line result for the period of each house lord, and the first is: "There will be physical well-being in the Dasha of the Lord of Lagn." This app carries that into the dasha view. When your current Mahadasha lord rules your 1st house, the engine attaches the theme "physical vitality and personal growth" to the period. You can see your sequence of periods with the Vimshottari dasha calculator, and what a Mahadasha is explains the system.
The same chapter then qualifies its own list (Sl. 5-8). A graha placed in an auspicious house such as a trine at the start of its dasha gives favourable results; one placed in the 6th, 8th or 12th at that time gives adverse ones; and the text says both the birth placement and the placement when the dasha begins must be considered. So "the Lagna lord's period is good for the body" is the default, and the lord's house and condition adjust it. That matches Ch. 12 exactly.
The engine applies a related test to whichever planet rules your current Mahadasha. It reads the period as favourable when the planet is in strong dignity (exalted, moolatrikona, own or friendly sign) or placed in the 1st house, provided it is not debilitated or in an enemy sign and not in the 6th, 8th or 12th. A dasha lord sitting in your Lagna therefore counts toward a favourable reading even without strong dignity. That is the app's rule, stated here so you can check it against your own chart.
Transits are handled differently. This app's Gochar calculator counts the transiting planets from your natal Moon, following the classical Gochara method, and the Sade Sati check is likewise Moon-based. Neither is counted from the Lagna. If you read that "Saturn is transiting your 1st house" somewhere, check whether the source means the 1st from the Lagna or the 1st from the Moon; they are usually different signs. Dated windows that combine dashas and transits for your chart are on the timing page.
Common misreadings
- Treating the rising sign as the Sun sign. The Sun takes a month to cross a sign; the Lagna takes about two hours. They are independent, and BPHS reads the self from the Lagna, its lord and the Sun as karaka together.
- Reading the house and ignoring its lord. Ch. 12 opens with the Lagna lord, not with occupants. An empty 1st house is not a weak 1st house; most charts have no planet there. The lord's placement and condition carry the reading.
- Reading "malefic in the Lagna" as a verdict. Ch. 12 Sl. 3 applies only when there is no benefic aspect. Saravali gives a rising Saturn in its own or exaltation sign one of the strongest descriptions in its chapter. Ch. 34 says malefics owning Kendras do not stay inauspicious.
- Treating the Lagna lord in the 6th, 8th or 12th as doom. Ch. 24 makes the 6th and 12th placements conditional on malefic links and a missing benefic aspect, and gives the 8th placement real scholarship. Ch. 10 adds that benefics in angles and trines offset difficulties.
- Taking the body descriptions literally. The appearance and health phrases in Saravali Ch. 30 are compressed mnemonic verses about a single factor. No text claims one planet fixes a person's looks or health, and none of it is medical advice.
- Trusting a 1st house from a rounded birth time. If your time is "around 6 in the morning", the rising sign may be right and the Navamsa Ascendant almost certainly is not. Near a sign boundary even the rising sign is uncertain.
Check it in your own chart
- Run the Lagna calculator with your exact birth time and place. Note the rising sign and the degree. If the degree is within about a degree of either end of the sign, treat the rising sign as uncertain until you confirm the time.
- Open the free birth chart and find the Lagna lord. Note its house, its sign and whether it is marked combust or retrograde.
- Apply Ch. 12 Sl. 1-2: is the lord in an angle or trine, or in the 6th, 8th or 12th? Is it exalted or in its own sign, or debilitated, combust or in an enemy sign?
- List any planets in the 1st house and read them in the Saravali table above, adjusting for sign and dignity.
- List the planets that aspect the 1st house using the aspect table. Is there at least one benefic among them?
- Check the lord's strength in the Shad Bala and Vimshopaka Bala calculators, and the 1st house's own points in the Ashtakavarga table.
- Repeat the first five steps counting from the Moon sign, as Ch. 12 Sl. 11 instructs. The full saved chart with all of this in one place is on the kundali page.
- Is the 1st house the same as my rising sign?
- In this app, yes. The engine uses whole-sign houses, so the sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth is the entire 1st house. BPHS Ch. 3 defines the Lagna as the rising Rasi, and Ch. 7 names the first bhava Tanu.
- My 1st house is empty. Is that bad?
- No. With nine grahas and twelve houses, several houses are empty in every chart. BPHS Ch. 12 judges the 1st house first through its lord: where it sits, its dignity, and what joins or aspects it. An empty Lagna with a well-placed lord is the strong case in that chapter.
- Why is the Lagna lord called auspicious even when it is Mars or Saturn?
- BPHS Ch. 34 Sl. 2-7 says the lord of the Lagna is specially auspicious because the Lagna is both a Kendra and a Kona. The role comes from the house it owns, not from the planet's natural temperament. Its condition in the chart still decides how well it can do the job.
- What if my Lagna lord is in the 6th, 8th or 12th house?
- Ch. 12 says physical felicity is reduced, and Ch. 24 gives the detail, but with conditions: the 6th and 12th results apply when the lord is tied to a malefic and lacks a benefic aspect, and the 8th placement is also described as an accomplished scholar. Ch. 12 adds that a benefic in an angle or trine from the Lagna offsets health concerns. Read all of it together and do not treat it as medical advice.
- How accurate does my birth time need to be?
- A sign takes roughly two hours to rise, so a time accurate to a few minutes normally fixes the rising sign unless you were born near a sign change. The Navamsa Ascendant needs far tighter timing. If you have no time at all, the app omits the Ascendant and houses altogether; see what to do when the birth time is unknown.
- Should I read my chart from the Lagna or from the Moon?
- Both. BPHS Ch. 12 Sl. 11 says the effects applicable to the Lagna should also be judged from the Moon. This app counts natal houses from the Lagna and counts transits (Gochar and Sade Sati) from the Moon.
- When does the 1st house get activated?
- Classically, during the dasha of the Lagna lord, which BPHS Ch. 48 links with physical well-being, and during the dasha of any planet sitting in the 1st house. The text adds that the lord's placement at the moment the dasha begins also matters. Your current and upcoming periods are in the Vimshottari dasha calculator.

This one has its own page
This one runs on its own page, built for it, where the full result is laid out properly. No account is needed there either.
